Hoglet, such sad news about Jonah Lomu, such a charismatic young man and so brave.
Much love

Morning all, much better here today and not wet, just windy but not anything like it was last night. No damage anywhere that I could see and I'm really glad I secured lids etc under weights on the outside bins, those I couldn't I put inside the greenhouse to stop them blowing away.
Just had a call from He Who Knows to say he'd be much later than planned as there has been a massive accident on the M4 with all lanes closed so he sat crawling for an hour to get to the road off and is now coming home cross country, unfortunately so is everyone else so it's slow going. Lunch today is only salad so nothing will spoil because of this thank goodness.
Sad news indeed of Jonah Lomus' passing, a prodigious talent when he played and a sad loss of one so young.
Hope all is well in your worlds and no storm damage yesterday, hopefully tonight will be a little calmer and quieter and we'll all catch up on some lost sleep! Lyn xxx.0 -
No damage here Lyn, thank goodness.
Poor He Who Knows he will be desperate for a cup of tea when he arrives home I would think. I hope these storms are not a sign of a bad winter as we have had 2 in a matter of a week.
We popped into town and now Himself is putting the bath panel back on and thn I can have a tidy up.
Such dreadful things happening in the world, I woke to the news of the seige in Paris but I understand that is over now. I am sure there is much more to come.
Stay safe everyone

Morning everyone,
Candlelight and MLW - yes, terribly sad news and so sudden, even though we knew of his kidney prolems. The country is in mourning really. He grew up fairly local to us and DH refs the teams from his old school. Did you see the haka the school did for him?
Wet and grey here today, tho fortunately not windy. Of course it is raining - I watered the garden last night! My cut and come again leaves look like they could be ready for a first harvest soon, and I think I'll plant some more in another wall planter. The tomatoes need staking this weekend, they've grown so fast. I'm only doing 5 tom plants this year because I gave some room over to corn... none of which has come up. Won't do that again! I've got 3 chilli plants in too but I might squeeze in a couple more. Chillies freeze so well and are really expensive here so I try to get the best value out of the space.
Not a lot planned for the weekend, the weather is supposed to be grotty. The local aerodrome to us has a historic open day on Sunday, which is quite well priced, so we'll check that out.
I'll be stocking up with spices at the Indian shop today - ran 4 of them out at the weekend and the prices at the shop are so reasonable compared to the supermarkets. For example - ground cumin in the supermarket here is about $2.99 for 30g. The Indian shop sells it for $7.99 for a kg.
Right, must get to work,
Love Hoglet xxx0 -
Hello lovely people,
Back home now after a smashing afternoon with my darling Mum, took her to see the Lady in a Van film which she thoroughly enjoyed. Maggie Smith is excellent in it, so poignant as its a true story as well.
I did help Mum wrap up her shoeboxes, it's something that her and Dad started years ago, fill a shoebox for a certain age child & these get sent abroad to orphanages. I really hope for her sake that they do actually get there.
Think will be lazy tonight and ping some Lasagne from the freezer rather than cook the salmon had planned, it will last until tomorrow.
Anyways, better get on, am hoping for a more peaceful night following last night's storm, wishing you all the same x0 -
Afternoon everyone, cold, wet and dismal here today but I was lucky to get a small dry window after lunch so the Cookie Monster and I had a mainly dry walkies, it only drizzled as we were coming back into the village at the end. The pub is manic at the moment and they were blitzing out turkey dinners when we left and still blitzing out turkey dinners when we got back, it must be an exhausting time of year for landlords and ladies.
I'm off to Nell again tomorrow for another concert this time it's Carmina Burrana, the Chichester Psalms and a couple of other pieces, should be a lovely evening. I'll be away until Monday and hopefully I'll be in touch between now and then but Saturday looks a bit manic with preparations, delivering music stands to the Cathedral, practises for the concert and the concert itself in the evening and we'll be tired by the time we get home again, but it's worth it!
Look after yourselves and stay warm over this cold coming weekend, wrap up well, Lyn xxx.0 -
Have a lovely time Lyn, I shall miss you.
We had torrential rain mid morning, but this afternoon has been OK, although it doesn't sound good for the weekend.
DGD1 has a day off tomorrow and asked if she could emulsion her bedroom. She doesn't want any help she saysbut we will be here if she does. She is going to Ikea on Saturday to buy a larger wardrobe, I think she is here for the long haul
:):)
Called in to see DD1, she is fine and I think she is going to paint her bath panel as well.
Hoglet I didn't see that particular haka, but am I alone in saying I find the haka very sexy. This is an old lady of 70, but I find it very sexy indeed. Is that a knock on the door, men in white coats
Much love to everyone

Afternoon everyone,
Busy busy day, went off to do some Xmas shopping this morning, only put an hour on the car and got back with a minute to sparebut boy was it busy, esp Mr Sparks. Only popped in to get Captain Scarlet his Chorley cakes ( Lancs lad ) and it was heaving, got chatting to lady in the queue and apparently it was a 20% discount promotion, who knew!
Also picked up a few more stocking pressies and something for my DSIL 50th.
Over to see my boy this afternoon, he is coping very well with being in his box so much but is eager to get his head down and graze for a while, feel so guilty when have to put in back in but vet was adamant on the just an hour out thing.
Just taking a breather with a cuppa then will go and prep veg for tea, we are having pesto salmon tonight one of my favs.
Lyn, hope you have a fab time, the concert sounds lovely x
Candlelight, certainly know what you mean with the Haka :rotfl: x
Have a good evening x0 -
Candlelight - you're certianly not alone in your thoughts on the haka. It's very powerful to watch live and even when the younger guys do it it really gets the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. For me it think it's that powerfulness that makes it sexy!0

hello all
Good news - i have received my official confirmation of the PhD and have unofficially handed in notice, formal written notice to go in within the next few days.:T Soooo excited. A new phase....
On the downside, the chuffing washing machine broke. it needed new ball bearings is all - but they come in a sealed unit meaning I had to buy new drum and associated works. The whole lot came to over £200:eek: So the whole machine has been scrappedIt is only 3 years old and only needed some ball bearings. Criminal waste... The only positive is that my new machine arrived within 24 hours so the great washing mountain reduction has begun.
Hope the poorlys get better soon - My OH also has a night time prowl and gets kicked when he snores. :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0
