Afternoon all.
Lainey- I ordered Go Set A Watchman for publication day and so far I've read the first chapter. I would have brought it with me but it was hardback so I left it behind. I must get back to it when I get home.
Candlelight- it's absolutely coming down in torrents at the moment but it's still 75 degrees! I'm sure it will stop soon and normal service will be resumed:)
I've been catching up on my TV fix here - homes and gardens channel. I'm overdoing on home makeover shows - even hubby is starting to talk about blowing out walls and adding in RSJ's. I knew I'd convert him eventually:D
Christmas decorations are being taken down here today so life is returning to normal now. Looking forward to longer days and a bit more light when we get home.0 -
Good evening all,
Well it has turned colder here and it is very damp.
I had a nail appointment this morning and after Himself dropped me off he went to see DD. She is fine, he has a coffee with her and exchange any news.
Tomorrow we have to pick our prescriptions up from the chemist, and then we are going to see my sister and BIL. We haven't been able to see them since before Christmas because they have both been unwell. Firstly with a dreadful cold and then with a nasty tummy bug, so we thought it best to keep our distance.
Tomorrow afternoon we are going to the surgery for our shingles jab.
The house is nice and tidy now all the decorations have been cleared away. I changed the cushion covers and throws so the room looks lighter. The days are so dark at the moment that sometimes I have to put a lamp on to read the paper.
SM I am sorry you are having rain, I had visions of you soaking up the sun. I suppose you will come back with lots of interior decorating ideas. You are a girl after my own heart, I do like a project. I am saving for new stair carpet and we have decided to have wooden flooring in the vestibule hall. We always take off our shoes in the front porch, but you can't ask visitors to do that, and the carpet in the hall has become badly marked. I have used the vax on it but it hasn't made much of a difference. We will wait until March, when hopefully the weather will be OK, and then go to choose some.
Lyn are you looking forward to seeing Ruth's new home? She won't know herself having more room for the Zebra child to play, and hopefully more storage.
I don't think I have any more news, I always think January is a very quiet month. Next Wednesday I am off to the breast clinic to hopefully be discharged. I have been discharged from oncology it is just the surgeons now, so fingers crossed. I must say this last 5 years has gone much quicker than I ever imagined.
Take care all
Much love

Normal service resumed here - been soaking up the sunshine today. I had to buy more sunscreen so bought some spray on stuff. It's a bit windy though and I'm sure I coated at least two other people by the pool as I sprayed it on me:o think I'll revert to the old fashioned cream version in future.
Candlelight - I have two crafts projects in mind. I saw two things in a fancy shop a couple of days ago. One was a beautiful tapestry cushion with a very traditional Santa on the front. It made me think that would be a nice project for later in the year. The other was artwork - it was an old style sepia map of the islands where we are staying and the left side and bottom of the map had shells attached. It looked stunning in a white frame. I have loads of shells at home from previous visits so all I need is an old map and I'm set to go.
Some of the artwork on sale here is so simple it has really inspired me- like this

My sister emailed me a photo yesterday of her latest craft project - she had a roll of very fancy Christmas paper which she didn't need so she bought a set of place mats for £2 for a charity shop and has used the paper to cover them and then lacquered them with some kind of varnish. They look amazing and will be nice to bring out each year. I'm very impressed.
I would love hardwood flooring in my hallway. I have a cream carpet (silly woman, nobody else in the countryside has light colours) although I have a striped rug at the front door. If we were rebuilding our home it would be hardwood all the way with big rugs where I wanted them however I do like my light carpet so it's good that I'm friends with my VAX machine!0 -
CANDLELIGHT I'm so pleased to read the news of your discharge from oncology, what a wonderful milestone to have reached my dear friend, how happy that must make you feel, just brilliant.
I am so looking forward to seeing Ruthies new house on Friday and seeing my Zebra too bless him, I've got him a treat too which I hope won't call down the coals of wrath on my head from his Mummy!!! we'll see, wish me luck!!! Lyn xxx.0 -
Minnie, I haven't seen sunshine since July!0

Afternoon everyone,
The wet weather has finally cleared up for last few minutes of daylight, sky now clear so think we are going to have a cold evening.
Oh Candlelight, was so chuffed to read that you are due to be discharged by the clinic, lovely news my friend and a good start to the new year.
Minnie, have now started Go set a Watchman and have to say am thoroughly enjoying it. Am envious of your warmth and sunshine though, despite the milder weather these dark days we are having are enough to bring spirits low. Although we have snowdrops under the beech trees which always gladden the heart.
Only other thing that I have to report is that have applied for a job, just a couple of days a week doing accounts for a local family form, emailed my CV through yesterday so fingers crossed for an interview. This being a lady of leisure is lovely but need to keep my animals in the style they have become accustomed to :rotfl:
Hope everyone is having a good week, enjoy your visit to DD's Lyn especially the Oma hugs with Zebra child.
Much love,
Lainey x0 -
Thank you Lainey. When I started this journey I couldn't imagine reaching one year post op, but here we are 5 years down the line.
I have had such wonderful care from the NHS, firstly with 3 monthly checks and then 6 monthly. The only thing I am a little apprehensive about is, if they discharge me on Wednesday there will be no one checking me. I know I am a big girl and must do it myself, but it is re-assuring knowing someone else checks as well.

Candlelight, can totally understand where you are coming from re someone else checking for you. My darling Mum went through breast cancer and that was something she also commented on when was finally discharged? She did mention it to her GP who said that if any concerns they would always be willing to assist, perhaps you could mention it at the clinic next week lovey? X0

Minnie, I haven't seen sunshine since July!
If I could reach that big yellow ball it would be coming home with me. The locals are whinging that it was unseasonably hot over Christmas and New Years - I figure if I borrowed the yellow ball for a while they would soon be a bit more grateful for what they have:D0 -
Thank you Lainey, it is reassuring to know I am not the only one to think like that. I hope your Mum is well.
My Mum had a radical mastectomy when she was 43, no follow up treatment and she lived until she was 80.
When I was discharged by Oncology I asked about checkups, but the Oncologist said I would only have one other mammogram, that is when i am 73 (I am 72 this year) but if I had any worries about lumps or bumps to go to my GP and I would be fast tracked, so that is good.
I hope Bill is OK
