You are making my mouth water MrsLW. I love freshly grown peas.
I did think about sowing some however I didn't have anything to grow them up or against so I haven't done it. Our weather has been so cold my veg are weeks behind now. I sowed out broccoli, radish and kale 10 days ago and they are all dead. We had three days of frosts, torrential rain and high wind so I guess they just couldn't survive. I'm looking to sow some cauliflower, more kale and some turnips this weekend in the hope of getting them started. My tomatoes are looking ok in the greenhouse and the Brussels sprouts seem to be managing well too.
No news on the land saga. I'm ignoring it till I hear more.
The new lawn tractor is performing well. So well in fact I have yet to sit on it. Hubby has taken to mowing with me trundling the walk behind mower round the edges and the tight spots. Truth be told I'm a bit worried that I might knock the corner off a wall with the ride on. It's quite funny that I've grown up driving big tractors, the odd truck and am a dab hand at digging holes with a JCB but the lawn tractor is scaring me. I did notice that hubby has acquired 4 traffic cones and I wondered if I was going to be as,ed to demonstrate my manoeuvring skills around them before Im let loose!
Working from home today after a long trip yesterday so having a quick break, will put the washing out since its sunny.
My elderly friend and neighbour (who was given a very short time to live some 2 years ago) is reasonably well and healthy and is currently planning her annual garden party so I'll be helping out there. It's the first weekend in July so I hope the weather gods look favourably on us. I'm responsible for cakes and desserts s I'm thinking of making this as it will be Independence Day.

I've seen one made and it was quite impressive. I need to start planning all the other offerings though! Looks like I will be away on business most of the previous week so I will need to be very organised.
Reading the threads it seems everyone is very busy in our far flung corners of the world. Aren't we an industrious bunch:D0 -
SM put some leeks in too, hardy little beggars and stand through anything the UK weather can invent for thier entertainment, we've just taken out the last half dozen of the masses we grew last year as they were running to seed. One of our favourite veggies!0

Hello all,
Well we had rain all through the night and it has been raining all morning. We didn't have the thunderstorms which were promised.
Have been really busy, at last have managed to get Himself to get rid of some of his stuff. We made a trip to the Hospice shop yesterday and again this morning. He is a bit like these hoarders you see on TV, he moves things from one place to another and can't bear to throw anything away.
It worries me that when we pop our clogs DD will have all this to sort out. I know the grandchildren will help, but it still will be a lot of work. I found 2 old phones of his, many years old, and can I just say he doesn't know how to use them anyway, but I am told I can't throw them away until the sim card has been removed!!!!!!, why hasn't he done it then.
DGD1 is coming to see us this afternoon after she has been to the hairdressers,so that will be good and we can catch up on all her news.
The 2 younger grandchildren are still plodding on with their exams, poor things, but should be finished soon.
I hope everyone is well and enjoying a good weekend, despite the weather
Much love

Good afternoon everyone. I'm sorry I've been missing for so long but first of all I was not well and then I was on holiday and when got back real life attacked so have only just managed to get sorted.
It is taking me ages to catch up with everything that has been happening on MSE.
So sorry to read about Docky Mrs LW, and Sammy Laura.. It's now quite a few years since I had to say goodbye to my lovely furry friends but I still miss them.
Our Housing Association landlord has decreed that all balconies are to be sanded, repointed and generally 'improved'. That is their idea not ours!!
So I'm struggling to find places to put the herbs, salad plants etc while this work is done as I learn from my neighbours that the workmen don't care about anything and leave the whole place, including any plants, thick with concrete dust.:eek:
I can probably bring the smaller pots inside for a while but there are also carrots and beetroot in very heavy pots that I just cannot lift.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend - it looks as if the predicted heavy rain is just about to hit us:eek:Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
We've just got back from the village fete next village over towards the city, on the village green and just perfect for a sunny summers afternoon. It had a dog show, little dancers in costume giving it all they'd got to 'Starlight Express', lots of tombola stalls, enterprising seascouts had a map of the river and you picked a square to find the shipwreck (we played that one), vintage cars, the biggest bouncy castle I've ever seen complete with enormous slides, cake stall, beer tent, free strawberries and cream from the local church and happy people busy in the sun. We went up on the bus and then walked down through the country park to the river path and back into the village along the river in the most beautiful warm breeze, heavenly. The loveliest thing happened as we walked through the woods, first we met some very social hounds out for walkies, all of who stopped to socialise as did thier owners and then over the brow of a hill tumbled a little lad of maybe 3? along with a half grown whippet puppy both skipped up to us, puppy went to He Who Knows wagging, then came to me and I was aware of this little voice saying HELLO, HELLO and looked down into limpid blue eyes and a smile of pure sunshine who promptly hugged my knees and I could see Mum laughing as she came over the hill so I put my hands down and hugged his little shoulders whereupon he let go my knees, looked up and pursed his little lips for a kiss, I bent down and got a smacker on the cheek, I'll never wash again!!! What an absolute sweetie. Dad followed with an even younger cherub who ignored us completely, one out of two isn't too shabby is it? Having a nice cuppa now we're home and He Who Knows is watching Le Mans on the telly. A day I'll remember for a long time for all the right reasons, Lyn xxx.0

Oh Lyn that sounds wonderful, what a lovely afternoon, and to be kissed by such a handsome young man. You would have missed this had you taken the bus home.
Little things like this are just for you both at the moment, joy always comes after such sadness.
Have a good weekend
Much love

Morning playmates it's quite a nice day down here now after a very grey and dismal start, we're planning to go for a long walk this afternoon, hopefully to bring back a carrierbagful of elderflowers so I can dehydrate them for use later on. They make a nice tisane with some mint in the grey and chilly winter months, most cheering. Washing is out on the line and I've been baking this morning, some recipes from one of my wartime books and have made carrot cookies, rock buns and a chocolate loaf cake all of which look edible. Was a bit cross last night, He Who Knows and an allotment friend were planning a bonfire (allowed to burn on site after sunset) and his friend said I'll bring the wife she can help Lyn with losing the dog. I declined fairly forcefully, (the woman is not at all my cup of teaand I'm quite a private person when it comes to emotions), just after HWK had left there was a dingdong at the door and allotment friend was there with wife on pushbikes, they'd decided I didn't mean NO and brought 'tablet' with photos of all grandchildren and proceeded to dump her on me with 'sympathy' and 'advice' I don't and didn't need for almost 2 extremely trying hours of my life that I'll never get back!!! I can't begin to put down just how I felt, but I'm a civilised woman and endured. To top it all off when the menfolk came back HWK was soooooo furious he couldn't speak that wife had descended unwelcome and uninvited he didn't come into the lounge but friend DID in smelly overalls having closed the front door and was preparing to settle down for the evening in our house, they were evicted, not unkindly, but evicted nonetheless. And breathe!!! Never again though, my civilised veneer would definitely be stripped away should they EVER try that little trick again! Grrrrr, Lyn xxx.0

.
Good gracious Lyn, how insensitive, particularly when you had already declined.
I would loved to have seen your face, were you talking through very tight lips? I know you wouldn't be deliberately rude, but 2 hours is a long time
Enjoy your afternoon
Much love

I wasn't talking much at all if I'm honest! They're not bad people, I don't take to either of them as personalities, both a bit brash and loud but good hearted enough in the main, I was just so incensed that the man could decide that I was in need of 'womens company' because I was sad about Docky and over ride my decision, quite strongly made, that I didn't! He Who Knows, like my father, has never ever told me what to think, feel or do and I'm aghast that an aquaintance not even my aquaintance could take it upon himself to decide what was right for me and force the issue on it. I'm sure the motivation was kind but just HOW DARE THEY!!!0

Hi everyone,
MLW - my goodness, how incredibly rude. I just can't understand people like that. All credit to you for evicting them too.
A low key weekend here -DH had a cold so no refereeing for him on Saturday. I did a bit of housework and made some curries for the freezer. Got all the washing dry on the line on saturday but the bedsheets had to go in th dryer on Sunday, it rained all day.
Friday night at midnight next door's burglar alarm went off (they moved out last week). And it has been going off intermiddently since. I've been ringing the council noise control department and they keep sending people out to investigate, but of course the alarm never goes off when they're around and so nothing can be done until they witness it. 5 calls I made to them over the weekend, I asked how on earth this was ever supposed to get resolved and they didn't have an answer to that. I THINK it may have stopped now - I last heard it at 5 pm last evening, but if it went off during the night I was so dead to the world after 2 nights of disturbed sleep that I didn't hear it.
Anyway, I spent most of the weekend reading a very helpful book for my little business and learning more about marketing, so I have some busy evenings ahead.
The cats are well - they thought very little of the grey and miserbale day yesterday and spent the whole day asleep on the sofa.
Hope everyone is well, love to you all,
Hoglet x0
