Last day at work for me as we have a bank holiday on Monday and I've extended it my taking Friday off too, so probably not much from me for the next couple of days. DH and I have got lunch at a fancy restaurant tomorrow, half price with a voucher :-) So looking forward to going there, I would never pay full price as it's very expensive but the voucher makes it possible for a rare treat. It's a lovely place set amongst olive groves and vineyards, with quail wandering about the place.
Have a good few days everyone,
love to you all

Hi guys, had quite a good day today, Docky has left his nosey alone mainly today so it looks like there is some healing going on but he had a swipe at it on his evening walk so maybe not! Getting ready for Zebra and co coming tomorrow for the weekend, so looking forward to seeing them again, the weather on Saturday looks dry so hopefully we'll get a day out together somewhere which will be nice. Very tired after having Docky last night and am having him again tonight to give He Who Knows batteries a recharge then going on a camp bed in the storeroom while family are here so Docky can sleep with Daddy and not disturb the others, complicated huh? Night, Lyn xxx.0

Evening all, I've been so busy today, just steam mopped the floors and trapped myself in the study while He Who Knows taken Docky for a short perambulation. Have made a carrot cake (actually 2 as the first one didn't rise), bolognese sauce, cooked a piece of gammon, have made a big jar of marinated olives in olive oil, lemon zest, garlic, sundried tomatoes and oregano with slices of gherkin and some onion and black pepper too, should keep Zebra happy he loves 'em! Have made up beds, steam mopped floors, generally tidied and vacuumed, cleaned the utility room and am now pooped!!! They are due round 8.30ish so late supper after Zebra is in his cot and sleeping. Found some tiny 'jelly cat' rattie toys that were his mums, they're in the cot too, cute!!!
Poor Docky, it feels like one step forward and 2 steps back he's swiped his nose again and now has a problem where the tumour is so close to his eye, the vet said it would cover the tear duct and I think that's what has happened. It's growing so fast now, every day sees changes. I think we're not going on much longer, sad though that is, he can't be left in discomfort just because we don't want to lose him, I feel selfish we've let it go this long but we both love him so very much. I think this part of pet ownership is the payment we have to give them for all the love and pleasure they have given by sharing thier lives with us, certainly our lives would be less without them , but the parting is hard isn't it?0 -
Hello all,
We have had some torrential rain today, I do hope it improves tomorrow.
We had to pop into town to go to the Building Society and Himself had to take his hearing aid in and have it re-programmed. I made an appointment for an eye test on Monday afternoon. The catarract on my right eye is getting worse, I have no idea whether it is ready to be operated on, but no doubt the optician will tell me. Although catarracts run in our family, and obviously it is an ageing thing as well, but the tablets I take for breast cancer are known to make them worse, so you really can't get away from it, can you.
Lyn, my friend, you must have worked yourself to a standstill today, and everything sounds delicious. Poor Docky he doesn't sound very well now, but I hope you have a good weekend with him and the family, and if they are meant to say their goodbyes so be it. As you say it is a price we pay for having the unconditional love of a pet, and you both have given him a wonderful life, so no regrets just a dreadful sadness.
AOT how are you? I have bought myself a circulation booster, not cheap, but I was worried about the circulation in my feet (being diabetic). I have used it once today and will again before I go to bed, it is also supposed to take the puffiness from the ankles in due course.
Hoglet, how are you and the cats? I hope Socks is fully recovered now and they are all behaving themselves. When the circulation booster was delivered this morning it came in a reasonable sized box which I thought Flora might like to play with. Well she did and also went to sleep in it, which didn't look very comfortable, so when she woke up I put a fleece blanket in it, and do you know she wouldn't touch it. Cats are funny arn't they, so I have taken the fleece out and she is a very happy cat.
Hope everyone is well and SM trying not to stress too much about the land situation.
Have a good weekend
Much love

Hi CANDLELIGHT, poor you with the catarracts, my sister in law is only 53 and had them diagnosed a couple of years ago, in fact that's partly what led to her being diagnosed as diabetic. She went to the optician as she was aware of changes in vision and he picked up the diabetes when he checked her out. I think the operation and replacement of lenses gives good clear vision with a pair of glasses but lets hope yours are slow developing and that doesn't need to be considered for a while yet.
We had torrential rain and high winds for a couple of hours round lunchtime today but now it's cleared and we have clear blue sky and sunshine, oh the vagaries of the english weather eh? xxx.0 -
Afternoon all, shattered today, He Who Knows has been feeling poorly so I've done all 3 hound walks, watered the polytunnel and greenhouse, housework, popping to the shop for odd things he's fancied and I was going to have a quiet day after a very hectic but fun weekend. The best laid plans of mice and Lyns will often gang agley as they say! Zebra et al were on cracking form this weekend, bless him he woke up grumpy after the journey to get here and was yelling his little head off until I went out to say hello when the smile I got was like sunshine and the little arms came out to be passed over to Oma, he knows me!!! I did something I've always imagined when I got a grandchild, we took him up the garden and picked him the very first ripe strawberries from the bed, and he ate them warm from the sun, his little face was a picture then we discovered together the joys of rides in the wheelbarrow, it was a bit one sided and I had to make brum brum noises but he so loved it. Just heard from Ruthie and she passed her last ever exam to be a fully qualified GP, she's so happy, I'm sooooo proud of her, she's a cracker. Hope all of you are well and happy busy bees who just don't have time to post, Lyn xxx.0

Lyn, that is good news about Ruthie, I am sure she had to work very hard for it as well. Not bad, with also getting married and having a baby.
I am sorry He Who Knows isn't well, I suppose with everything going on with Docky as well he must be stressed and a little fragile. I hope he is up and about tomorrow.
We have had horrible weather here today, but nothing like Scotland seem to be having. Went for an eye test this afternoon, and as I thought the catarract on my right eye is worse but no where near ready for an op, so I have to choose some new specs. I am dreadful because I can never make up my mind, I am a bit like Mavis in" Open All Hours", should I have a small tin of beans or a large.:) There is too much choice, and Himself is of no help because as far as he is concerned they are all OK:eek: and of course I can't see properly because they are a clear lense:mad: so what do I do.
FTM I really enjoy reading your blog, you all sound so busy and the allotment is coming on a treat.
Hoglet are you and the cats OK? Flora is settled in this cardboard box and we can't move her. If you remember I bought her a lovely igloo some months ago and she wouldn't go near it, but she loves this box. Anybody coming to the house will think we can't afford to make her comfortable, when in actual fact she has the run of the house. I assume cats are like that, when they take a fancy to something.
I hope everyone is well and just very busy. I miss your comments, but of course Lyn and I are retired so we have a lot more time to post and read.
Take care of yourselves
Much love

Morning everyone
MLW - I'm sorry to hear about Docky's worsening health, and also glad that you've had a wonderful time with Zebra. Our pet smean so much t us do't they, every time Socks wants a cuddle - they are very 'invasive' cuddles - and I'm busy with something else I feel guilty because I know one day I will give anything to cuddle her again.
Candlelight - sorry to hear about your cataracts, fingers crossed you won't need an operation for a little while. That did make me laugh about Flora - ours are exactly the same. We have so many pet beds and they won't touch any of them, but an empty carboard box or paper bag is the most comfortable bed ever. I was working on the computer and I work with the laptop closed using a bigger screen - Alfie INSISTED on sitting on the closed laptop right in front of the screen. I tried putting cat bed next to me to get him to move and he went crazy when I tried to put him in. I ended up with him sitting on the back of the printer which he seemed reasonably happy with.
We had a lovely weekend - Friday's posh lunch threatened to go sour as quite frankly the food was taking ages to come out, the appetisers arrived at the same time as the starters, the potatoes were very late after the main course and then they forgot about our desserts..... We weren't happy as it is a very fancy place that is supposed to have exquistite service. Anyway, the Maitre d appeared without us saying anything, and was so apologetic - he took the costs of all the drinks off the bill and then gave us a gift bag full of their own olive oil and pampering products. We left feeling that we'd been taken care of, which is all you want really isn't it?
Saturday we had a lovely day with family as it was my birhtday - my cousin bless her always makes me a birthday cake which is nice when you're away from the rest of the family. I was so spoilt - I got a cheese making kit, a beautiful soup tureen, a cheese board, and gardening book and some vouchers.
Sunday was incredibily busy as the other group I'm involved with (it's a book group) held an online summer fete. Sounds a little bit silly doesn't it but we have membership all around the world and lots of people didn't even know what a fete was. We held tonnes of games and competitions for 24 hours (I didn't stay up for ALL of it!) and gave away lots of books as prizes. So many of the members have said that it was a wonderful day and they enjoyed themselves so much, it was lovely after all that work we'd put in.
So that just left yesterday ( a bank holiday here) to catch up on houseowrk and generally do a few bits around the house. Back to work now, and I certianly feel as if I've had a break but I'm still knackered!
Much love to you all,
Hoglet x0 -
Hi all, dreadful time trying to stay on the MSE site over the last couple of days, hope they can find the glitch and fix it very soon. It's supposed to be not so bad for those using the new format but I haven't tried switching to that as it's too bright and hurts my eyes. Hope this isn't going to be ongoing as a problem.0
