Thank you AOT I am looking forward to it. I hope you don't have too many aches, as I said my sister came visiting today and her knees are in a dreadful state. She lives in a bungalow so finds it quite hard going upstairs to the bathroom here

    Look after yourself

  • I know that feeling too well candlelight. It's why I don't visit my DS and DDil as often as I (and they) would like. I find stairs so difficult these days.
My aches and pains come and go - I just have to put up with them.

candlelight & ArthriticOldThing Just a tip I got from my dentist one day.
Try going upstairs sideways one step at a time. It relieves the pressure on your knees.

It certainly works and is particularly useful if you are confronted with a steep staircase. Much more dignified than on your bottom. Even DS uses the sideways method when his arthritic knees are playing up. I always find coming down worse.

We have worked out ways of going to and from Mr M with the least pressure on the knees. It is up quite a steep hill but quite close.

In case I don't get back Happy Birthday for Sunday Candlelight.

    Welcome back FTM x

Your vegetable garden sounds wonderful and productive MrsL!

We've got courgettes which are ready to go out but will wait another week or so. Cucumbers are doing well as are runner beans.

We haven't put the greenhouse up yet as we're deciding where things can go but discovered that the unused porch at the front of the house makes a good substitute as it is about two thirds glass and gets the sun most of the day. OH put staging in there and it works great!

Work has been busy; OH has been put on a contract in Bristol which is less than 30 miles away so I have him home all week. He was home at 3.50 yesterday, jammy wotsit!

Nothing planned for this weekend, just pottering round at home and some studying for next exam which is just over a week away.

Thank you Maggie, will tell my sister next time she comes.

Thank you Kate, my goodness you sound busy, but you are getting there, that's the main thing. With all the rain we have had this week the garden is beginning to look like a jungle again, but I think it should be dryer next week so we will be back out in the garden again. My poppies have been a bit bashed by the rain, such a pity I love poppies.

    Have a good weekend

    Morning all.

Welcome back FTM - I guess it's FIL now :p
    Happy birthday for Sunday candlelight

Just having a quick coffee before "setting to". I am painting DDs old bedroom so that DS can move into it. Before we extended, it was the master bedroom so is quite large, DS current room is much smaller - cos we nicked a bit of it for the extension :p. So as DD isn't in hers most of the time, it seems only right that he has it. It's also a great excuse to de clutter.

She has come home to "help", hmm except that she is in the spare room next door and I don't want to wake her too early.

Anyhow, I am going to make a start any sec

In between coats, I am going to try and get in the garden. I haven't managed to plant anything this year, but might see if I can get to a car boot tomorrow and pick up some seedlings. We will see how I get on

Nurse Maggie, love that the dentist told you how to take care of your knees :rotfl: just don't let the osteopath give you a filling :rotfl:

    Have a great day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • I've just come back from the sea scouts jumble sale in the village hall, usually they are a source of useful things at reasonable prices but today they had not much on offer, I guess when you collect from the village 4 times a year and have done for many years sooner or later there's not much left to donate. Anyways I spotted a pretty little pink and white tureen, not damaged but definitely used and asked how much it was.......£30!!! The lad on the stall said they'd looked it up on the internet and they thought it was valuable but I could have it for £20 if I wanted it! Chin on floor I declined and left the stall. I take maximum a couple of pounds of change, it's a scramble to get to the stalls and I'd be scared of losing my purse so I never would have £30 with me, what on earth are they thinking? When I came away it was still there, I'd have paid a couple of pounds for it, I hope they rethink the price and let somene have it for a reasonable amount or anything left goes to the tip!
I did get one bargain though a big candle in a jar with a glass santa shade and the support for the shade too for £1 and I know the candles alone are £15ish in the shops. It had been used once, the candle had burned away about a 20p piece sized hole round the wick. Why would you give something like that away? My gain though and I got a crawl through toddler play tube for Zebra for in the garden for another £1 and a lovely oilcloth childs apron with animals on for 30p so not entirely a wasted trip.

You did well there Lyn, was it a Yankee candle? They can't expect to ask prices like that just because that is the going rate on the bay of E, it is a jumble sale for goodness sake. If they want that amount they should put it on themselves.

VJs Mum good luck with the decorating, I suppose DD might need to check everything before decluttering :).

I would like to follow FTM's blog too :D

DH is in the process of finishing off the cupboard we have got permission to install and I will be painting later. My wall pantry shelf has been cut in half and is now side by side. It still functions and is making better use of space so it was the right thing to do.

I do want to make lemom cupcakes at some point later (might be tomorrow as I have care calls later) but very excited to try dropping a bit lemon curd into the centre ;)

Finally ordered a laptop charger. It cost £10ish on e bay. Looking forward to more time online and having support with OS ways again! :)

Lyn the oilcloth apron is timeless. Good buy for 30p!
