:bdaycake:HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAISY:A
Well it has hardly stopped raining since last night, although I did have a good nights sleep. I got up about 6.45, but left Himself in bed for another hour.
We delivered a 21st birthday card to DGD1 boyfriend, then popped to the SM for a few bits, and then to see DD.
When we came home I started a big pot of ham and vegetable soup, and I have just made sausage rolls and a rhubarb crumble.
I just felt the need to eat some "ordinary" food again after the excesses of Christmas. The soup is now in the slow cooker and I will cook the sausage rolls and crumble later for our meal this evening.
I am on the lookout for a smaller casserole. All mine are quite large because I had them when the girls lived at home, and Denby lasts a lifetime. I noticed last week Asda had some in their sale so when we go on Monday I will have another look. They are not Denby of course, but I am sure they will be fine.
I am having a quiet afternoon, Flora is already having her siesta, nothing new there then;), and Himself will have a nap so I can watch anything I want on the TV, except of course there isn't anything I want to watch that I haven't seen before. I have never seen so many repeats in my life.
FTM I hope everyone has recovered now and the girl are ready for a new term. Please give them a hug from me.
Hoglet I hope Socks is feeling better now.
Have a good weekend all
Much love

Well i am pooped..i have been taking decorations down and cleaning like mad..its all clean and sparkly now.
I went shopping today and timed it perfect in the bakery..he was reducing his bread and cakes to very low prices..so i bought 3 loaves of his beautiful brown bread with mixed seeds..3 lots ciabatti ..a baguette and some cakes..all for £2..he is going on holiday for 2 weeks..wished him a Happy new year and hope he has a good holiday..

I went to Home Bargains and bought some little spray bottles for my home made air freshener also some lavender oil for my dusters...
We had to go to SM ..i had run out of bacon..:o..i found some in the reduced bits and bought 3 packs of it and froze it..i also bought some more waffles..the girls can't get enough of them at the minute..was in and out in under 10 minutes..lots of people with piled up trolleys..
We got home absolutely drenched..got warmed up and had a nice cuppa..Sam had fixed lunch for the girls and himself..i spent some time ironing and Simon fixed the living room light..it has started to wobble..so he fixed the screws tighter..we sat down and planned our new chicken pen and all that he wants to grow at the allotment..i have decided to grow the lettuce and spring onions here in tubs will save having to go up daily to fetch them.
We had a simple tea..spam,chips and beans..lovely it went down a treat.
O before i forget..there is anew little member of the household..we bought a little fish tank and a small gorgeous gold fish...the girls spend ages just watching him..i find it relaxing to watch him:D..his or her name is Goldie..as chosen by Iris.

FTM - I've got another 9 days here so making the most of it:) I've been looking at home magazines and imagining some home improvements whilst relaxing by the pool. This is where I do most of my planning - I flit between looking at things for next Christmas and then back to interior design!0

Thank you everyone for asking about our little Socksie - that's ever so sweet of you. She is going from strength to strength and no you wouldn't know there is anything wrong with her. Tough little cat she is.

Hi all, tried to post last night but lost the post.
Happy New Year! Am using my phone data to get online until broadband is sorted so intermittent access. Most stuff now moved, OH is going over with his dad and brother today whilst I stay here to do some work stuff and try and sort out / put away some of our belongings!
Has made me realise how much "stuff" we have and am planning to declutter.0 -
Hi everyone, hope you are all well and just busy. DD2 returned to work yesterday and that Zebra had his first day at nursery. I know DD was sad at having to leave him but was soon up and running back at work and enjoying being with her colleagues and doing the job she's trained for. Zebra had a whale of a day with apparently much time spent splashing in the water play area and eating his head off at all his meals, he came out smiling. His Dad enjoyed the 1 to 1 time before Mummy came home so although they were all very tired, they were all happy, can't ask for better than that can you?
Weather here is grey today and colder and we're due some fairly heavy rain over the next few days. I've just walked Docky down by the river and it's a very high tide, almost into the pub car park which is full of cars and still rising. It's full moon and the wind is holding water in the river mouth and the tide is pushing lots more up the river, could be interesting. Luckily we're over 1/4 mile away from the river and uphill by quite a lot so we won't have problems but the houses on the river frontage might have wet cellars, certainly the pub might!!!
We heard from our builder today that he might come on Friday or Monday next week to replace a few windows and finally put us in our new bathroom, we've been waiting for a year now but better late than never I feel. It's going to be messy and very noisy so I might get rattled and be cross, I'll try not to but builders mess in the house is gritted teeth time!!! Lyn xxx.0 -
Good evening all
Life is fairly quiet here at the moment, so not a great deal to report.
Weather wise, wet and windy and I understand we could be in for a couple of rough days
Tomorow we are taking our friend shopping (her husband had the heart attack and bypass). She doesn't drive and she wants to stock up on bulky things at Sainsbobs, her DH isn't allowed to drive for 12 weeks, and actually he isn't very well, it really has knocked him for six. Still he enjoys having a chat with Himself, they have always got on well.
DD is walking so much better, thank goodness, the new exercises are certainly helping, her new physio definitely knows his stuff.
Kate I hope you are settling in well, and the house is reasonably warm.
Hoglet I hope Socks has recovered well. We are having a bit of trouble with Flora at the moment. When she wakes in the night she starts scratching the stair carpet. I have bought 2 of those plug in things, one for downstairs and one on the landing, to see if it calms her down. I know it can take a while to take effect. I don't know why she has started doing this, although she always scratches the carpet if a door is closed. She only does it in the middle of the night.
FTM I hope you are all OK. Has the new term started yet and what will you be covering this year?
Lyn I can't believe the Zebra child has started nursery. The little tinker seems to have grown so quickly, and I am sure DD welcomes grown up conversation. I can remember saying to Himself, when he came home from work TALK TO ME, poor man it was the last thing he wanted to do after a busy and stressful day.
AOT are you OK, except for our usual aches and pains? I do find the cold goes right to my joints.
SM are you still in the Sunshine State? No cold going to your joints at the moment hopefully.
A big HELLO to all other posters and those who read the thread. NURSEMAGGIE I do enjoy reading your posts on the OS thread and good luck with your next trip to yet another hospital, you poor thing seem to spend all day getting to and from a hospital. I am very lucky because our main hospital, which is where I have to go for my check ups, is only about 15 mins away. I have my 6 monthly check with the surgeon next week, and I am actually 4 years on, but there will be no celebration when I reach 5 years. I know only too well cancer can creep up behind you and bite you on the bottom when you least expect it.
Take care all and keep warm
Much love

Evening all ( it really should be good morning all).
Candlelight - I'm still enjoying the sun. We have a cold snap on the way though, due to be 69f tomorrow so we've had guidance notes circulated in the hotel. Tells us it will be "sweater weather" tomorrow and advice on keeping pets warm in cold weather. Made me giggle no end - well maybe that was the martini that I had as we watched the sun go down from the pool bar. I'm an absolute lightweight these days when it comes to alcohol. One drink and I'm ready to fall asleep in a corner.
On the subject of alcohol I had a bit of a revelation earlier. When here in the US I'd often heard tales of eggnog around Christmas time and thought it sounded nice. I now think though it may be very similar to advocaat which I find to be one of the just vile concoctions ever so that romantic notion has been well and truly squashed!
My to do list for when I come home is growing. I have some deep shelves in the built in wardrobes which are really impractical and neatly folded clothes fall around and get creased so I'm going to brave IKEA and buy some shallow plastic containers with lids wch will stack in the shelves and make things much tidier. We built the house 18 years ago and I cannot work out why I didn't think of this sooner, sometimes I do think too much about the big things and forget the simple little ones:o
I've been planning my veggie planting too. I need to remember that it's still the depths of winter at home so there won't be any gardening for a while. One of my Christmas gifts was a set of 3 metal buckets, shabby chic style, like you see in florists. I know they were intended for practical use but I loved them and think they would be fab on display so I'm thinking of alternative uses. Rolled up towels in the bathroom was one of my thoughts, who knows?
Anyway off to clean some sea shells which I gathered earlier. I have masses at home but can't stop picking them up. One of these days I wil make something with them!0 -
SM 69f, Oh my goodness, and saying that to a hardy Scottish lady as well. You will probably have some odd looks if you are not wearing a sweater when it is so cool;)
Isn't it funny, I make lists after Christmas of things I would like to do or have done during the year. We need new stair carpet, but until Flora stops scratching it, it will have to be on hold.
I would like to change the garden around a little, but Himself isn't capable of doing heavy jobs now, so we shall have to see.
Enjoy the rest of your time in Florida despite the cool weather:D

Hi Candlelight
Is there anything you could try as a 'sacrificial' mat that Flora would scratch in order to save the carpet? I ask that as Izzy has absolutely demolish a mat we have in the hall - DH suggested trying to stop him but as I don't mind what happens to the mat it seemed silly as he would likely scratch the carpet instead. Just a thought?
