Good morning all..hope your all well and not had any bad weather to contend with..
MLW..good for you for sticking to your guns..i hate it when workmen try to talk you into things you don't want and then don't listen to what you want..infuriating..it will be worth it..hope docky is ok and coping with the mess and noise.
Candlelight..am so pleased your check up went ok..hopefully thats the last you will see of them...is your girl still doing her new exercises?
Hoglet..wow what an expensive accident..lucky you had some put by..just glad Socks is ok..your weather sounds great..such a shame about the tomatoes..hopefully it won't affect the main crop..
Nursemaggie..am sorry to hear your poorly babe..but really nice to hear from you..lurk away lol..((hugs))..
Well we have been busy this week..my lovely husband has got back into his bread making..the house smelt absolutely gorgeous over the weekend..lots of cobs and bread in the freezer..he and Sam went to the allotment to check on the sheds after the wind, and brought back a Swede..my it was big and delicious..had some left over after Sunday dinner..so i mixed it in with mash potatoes last night..gave them a tang and looked lovely colour too.
Unfortunately our fave CS closed last week..we popped up on the last day to give them a card and small gift to say Thank You for all the hardwork they have put in to it...we did get some lovely books whilst we were there..all 10p..Fern found some more Horrible Histories she hasn't got and Iris found a book with 365 Kitten stories..one a day everyday..beautiful and very short story so easy enough for her to read to me..i found some Gardening books i haven't seen..very interesting..
I did find a beautiful white Christmas tree..on the path obviously out out for the bin men..they never took it..so i did..after asking the lady who put it out..she was more than pleased to let us have it..its gorgeous..all white and sparkly..the girls are going to have it for their bedroom..i have some bright pink baubles and tinsel..so it will be theirs..
Both Annie and Fionna had scans this week..Annie is doing fine and so are the twins..both growing nicely..Fionna won't get her results until she goes to see consultant next month..yet if they find anything then they will ring her..so fingers crossed.
My other girl Heather has organized a Baby shower for Annie..its in March..just us girls going with her MIL and 2 other members of the family..its going to be a pink party..looking forward to it..
Sam went for 2 job interviews last week and has one next week too..not heard anything yet..poor lad..he applies for jobs all the time and hardly gets an acknowledgement..to cheer him up we bought him a dvd he wanted to see..he is seriously considering setting up his own Gardening service..
Fern and Iris are fine..we have been learning about the Seasons and also Money..we have some fake toy money..i have set up a small shop on the dining table..they have a list each and have to add it up..give me the correct amount or tell me how much change they should get..bless them its hard going but we will get there..
Iris lost another tooth..was up very early today..all excited to see if the Tooth Fairy had been..she had..and left her a £1..she has put it in her money box..they have some Christmas money leftover and have given it to me to put in the bank..they want to order some new Lego figures..very grown up little ladies.
As for me..i have been very good and not spent a penny this week..and if my shopping list remains on course i will only spend about £25..i never realized just how much food i have in freezer and pantry..all the savings i am making will definitely come in handy this year.
right got to go and get on with the day..
hope your all ok..
love

Thank you FTM I am not so bad as last year or the year before. The tablets keep it from growing. There are people who have been on it about 12 year now. Shows it works. Commiserations to you son they just never even get an acknowledgement do they. I have an out of work son. He is going to do an OU degree full time get the DWP off his back for three years and may help him get a job.
I think gardening is a good idea it is one thing there is a growing demand for with our aging population. I don't think robots will take over that job.
Sorry you are losing your favourite CS you will miss it.
candlelight so glad everything is OK and you don't have to go for a check up any more. I thought they still like to see you once every five years. Do you keep your specialist nurse? I only have to go every six weeks because of the ongoing treatment. I need to have blood tests every six weeks and a scan every six months. So far everything is OK.0 -
Good evening all
Bitterley cold here tonight, and the gritting lorry has just passed by. I know we have the possibility of snow
Nursemaggie, I do still have 2 more appointments, one with the Oncologist in June and then the final one with the Surgeon next January and then the five years is up. As I understand it if, after I have been discharged, I have any concerns at all I just need to phone them and they will see me. I am not sure whether I will still have a mammogram each year because I will be past 70 then but I think I can request one.
I had a Macmillan Nurse assigned to me and she was lovely. I did need to phone her on one occasion, I had just finished 5 weeks of radiotherapy and I was very badly burned, and it continued to get worse, which I had been told it would. She said to come to the hospital at 1pm and there was a doctor waiting to see me. When he heard I was diabetic he wanted to admit me straight away, but I really didn't want that. The Dressings Nurse agreed to see me each morning Monday to Friday and my DD, who is a nurse, said she woould change the dressings at the weekend. I think I was at my lowest then because I couldn't see how I would heal, but of course I did. I am glad you are OK at the moment, isn't it aways a relief to be told that by someone who knows, I wish you good health for the future.
FTM sounds as though you are busy, and poor Sam, people are rude, surely an acknowledgement is not too much to ask. I think I mentioned to you in the summer he might do well as a gardener. It would be wonderful for him to be self employed, and you never know there might be some sort of grant to help him by some equipment. He sounds a very well mannered, personable young man, so I am sure he would do well, and it is so easy to have some cards printed off and pop them through letterboxes. If we lived closer I would be his first customer.
You were lucky with the white Christmas tree, my DGD2 has a pink one which she has in her bedroom each year, (she is a pink and glitter girl )
AOT I hope you are keeping well and warm.
Hoglet, I am sure you must be warm anyway, you wouldn't like it here at the moment.
Hello to everyone and hope you are all well
Much love

LYN I hope you have some respite from the builders and plumbers over the weekend, and that you can go to the toilet in peace;)
Time to relax before the next stage.

FTM there are grants available for young people setting themselves up in business and some allowances Sam will probably get £30 or £40 a week towards his keep while he builds his business up. He could probably get a grant for a van or pickup from "The Princes Trust." They also act as an umbrella group for lots of small things. It is worth looking into everything he can. Local authorities often give grants for things like brochures and stuff. Look out for any local enterprise groups. Sometimes you can find a local charity that subsidises premises and organises bulk printing and that sort of thing. It is good to have other young people to talk to. There may even be some free courses on setting up your own business.
My son went into lots he was going to go into business with two others from collage. He did lots of work on it turned out the other two were just stringing him along. It was too big for just one to do as they were all into slightly different aspects of computers.
Candlelight I don't think it is that companies are rude when it comes to applications They just get so many it would cost thousands to let them all know they were not successful. It is not unusual to get 1500 applications for one job. Most get several hundred.0 -
Hi CANDLELIGHT we do indeed have the weekend to ourselves and the feeling of utter relief last night when they finally went and I could dust, hoover and steam mop right through the house was brilliant. We still only have one loo, the builder spent such a long time fitting the bath that nothing else got done. The trouble is he's running 2 jobs at once and had to go off to the other site and stayed most of the morning which all means ours takes longer. Still, on the plus side we do have our last two windows fitted now and the whole house is now double glazed so should be warmer.
Anyhow, I have my Nell staying this weekend which always makes the world a happier place and we're going to have a walk up to the centre this morning and after we've walked the Dockling this afternoon we'll light the stove and play some board games in the warm and put the world to rights. Builders won't be back until Monday and the plummer comes on Wednesday so I'm going to do the morning walk and then take myself off somewhere on the bus for the day and stay out of the fuss, new water tank being installed in the loft and new shower being installed will mean a very cold house I think. I just hope we get the upstairs loo working on Monday but, we;ll have to wait and see.......0 -
I'm back:hello:
Came back on Wednesday and it's has been utter chaos ever since!
The washing machine which went on the blink Christmas week was not worth fixing - needed a motor at £300 plus fitting. So we had to buy yet another - having spent almost £600 on the last one and only got 2 years and a month out of it I bought a hotpoint for £220 this time. Goodness knows how long it will last.
We now have no central heating again, engineer isn't returning calls and we've just paid his bill for £270 from the beginning of December. The boiler is only 3 years old and has been regularly serviced so I'm at a complete loss as to why we keep having problems. Doesn't help that we have quite a bit of snow here and it hasn't made it above freezing yet today.
We came home to find that our deer friends had been back in the garden and have completely cleared entire sections of shrubs and trees. We think it would cost well over £1000 to replace what they have destroyed but first we need to remove the problem so we have been in touch with someone who is coming to see what he can do to help.
My window vacuum packed in yesterday, thankfully in the last window. We had a big storm on Thursday after we came home and I literally couldn't see out the back windows. They were coved with a greasy film and all sorts of flying leaves and sticks. Another purchase for this week as hubby uses it to dry the shower and I don't want him to get out of the habit.
I normally return with good intentions of using up freezer and stock cupboard supplies and don't really do it. This year we definitely will be eating up everything we have before I buy any more in an effort to claw back some cash.
Mum hasn't been well at all while we were gone and she's stull having blood tests. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of urgency around getting to the root of the problem. At least she seems more relaxed that she knows we are home now although I'm getting the cold shoulder from my father for being away when she was ill even though my sister was around to help out for a while. He'll come round, I've been there before:(
Hoglet - saw the bill for the damage. You sound like you are having my kind of luck!
FTM - it's a pity Sam wasn't up here. I know quite a few people who are desperately trying to find a "handyman" . The sort who will come for a day a week or so many hours and carry out whatever jobs they need. Problem is nobody will take it on because one week it may be some diy type jobs, the next gardening and then maybe something else. It's so difficult. Many of them are slightly older, perfectly with it but just not as physically able as they once were so need help.
MrsLW - we had the en suite refitted 2 years ago and despite having the use of another bathroom I could wait for them to finish. What an upheaval. Were due to have the other bathroom replaced in March so it will be the same all over again. I feel for you.
Candlelight, AOT, Nursemaggie, Kate, VJsmum and all other posters - hope you are all well and warm.
I'm off to tackle some ironing and mending now. Hubby had a mishap with a barbed wire fence and a sweater yesterday, the fence won of course but he thinks I'm a miracle worker and will be able to rescue the sweater. Sweet that he has so much faith in me:)0 -
SM, Good gracious, surely everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, poor you, it does seem to be a conspiracy. When you said "deer" friends, just for a second I thought it was a typo until I read on. That is an awful lot of shrubs and trees to replace, if indeed you are going to.
I am sorry your Mum is still not well, and I hope the Doctors sort it soon, it is the not knowing that is so worrying. Once you know then you caan start to deal with it. Do you wish you had stayed in the Sunshine state with all the disasters awaiting you?
We had a hard frost last night, and it has only just cleared. We now have a beautiful blue sky, and Flora was sitting on the table in the kitchen (BAD CAT):) sunning herself. We still haven't had any snow thank goodness, but I know it is bad in parts of Scotland.
I am in the throws of sorting my wardrobe out. not before time either. I have one bin bag full at the moment, but likely to be another one at least.
Well take it steady this week, try not to be too stressed, although I suppose you go back to work as well, and hope your Mum receives some answers soon.
Much love

LYN I hope you are not too sore after your fall.
I went out very gingerly this morning to the car, because as you say black ice cannot be seen. I know you said you bounce, but it could have been a lot worse, we ladies have to be careful of our hips when we are older.
I am sure you must have had a lovely weekend with Nell and no builders, you now have to gird your loins for the next phase. and I know you don't want to hear it again but"it will be worth it when it is finished":rotfl:
Much love
