  • Hi Nursemaggie,

Good to "see" you and no apology needed, I just wanted you to feel very welcome if you wanted to post. I lurked for more than 12 months before I plucked up courage to join in, by which time I felt I "knew" a lot of people.

The Christy is world famous I know, so you are in good hands and with regard to the drugs, as I understand it, if you are already being treated with a particular drug they won't stop it, but it will not be available for new patients,of course I might be wrong. I wish you all the best managing the cancer.

Flora isn't scratching the carpet quite as much (she does have a scratch post) and believe me Maggie she doesn't need any more attention, we are besotted with her and she is such a character:rotfl: bearing in mind she adopted us bringing with her 5 kittens about 18 months ago. DD found homes for all the kittens and Flora stayed with us, but we had her chipped and she had the "op", so no more kittens.

I also love the flower tots.and FTM is doing such a wonderful job home tutoring them, I love hearing which projects they are doing.

    Take care of yourself

    Much love

  • LYN I hope you are not suffering too much regarding builders and mess. Perhaps you should take some of docky's herbal medicine to keep you calm;)

I know when we had the house rewired last year we went out every morning so that we didn't get in their way, and luckily the weather was good so we were able to go out into the garden in the afternoon.

I left them plenty of drinks and sausage rolls, cakes etc. and they were very happy. At the end of every day the apprentice asked for the 'dyson so he could clean up the mess. I told him we would do it, but he wouldn't hear of it.

    Deep breathe Lyn.

    Much love

  • Hi CANDLELIGHT I now have both loos out of bounds as in their wisdom they are working on them in tandem!!! I have to be desparate to stop them and evict them while I go in!!! Cross at the moment as the plummer came this morning and said the wall he was going to put the shower on was too thin so nagged us into having a 'Digital Shower' as he wouldn't have to drill into the wall to install it. No controls inside the shower but an electronics box on the wall and a handheld controller which apparently will beep when the water is the right temperature and save us from 'Having to put your hand in that nasty cold water to see if the shower is warm enough, won't that be nice?' I do so hate being talked down to and treated like a 'little ignorant old lady' he would only talk to He Who Knows, Grrrrrrr! Now I have to tackle the builder who employs him and explain in very small but pertinent words just why I'm not happy with that and want a normal shower with controls I can use! Said Plummer also incurred wrath as he said the new shower would only be 'slightly' more expensive than the one we'd already ordered and paid for. 'How much is slightly?' I asked ' £150' to which I replied 'Thats not slightly, that's double' and he said it was a negligible amount and not worth quibbling about. Not my favourite tradesman, did you guess by now? Oh wish me luck, this is only day 2 and it's going to be going on for a couple of weeks! Lyn xxx.
  • Goodness Lyn it is a good thing you are not on diuretics:eek: I don't know how you manage with them working on both bathrooms.

The plumber seems to be a bit cheeky to me, did He Who Knows have anything to say to him? £150 may not be much to him but it certainly is to the rest of us.

    Chin up Lyn:A

    Much love

  • We both got rolled out like pastry, he wouldn't stop pushing this wretched shower and poor He Who Knows was just not able to get a word in. The builder seemed to be pro the shower too and it just overtook the decision making. Tomorrow is another day entirely and I shall be having words with the builder who has kept us waiting for a whole year with no communication as to why or when it would go ahead. I think he owes us the same loyalty as we have shown him and IF I want an ordinary shower, that's what he'll arrange!!!I shall also arrange to be out for the whole day when the plummer is in to do the jobs he has to do, I don't think I'd be able to be civil enough to be in the house. I am on diuretics, but only mild ones, that's bad enough without instant access to a loo, never mind, I'll sort it xxx.
  • Me too Lyn, have been for years, not always very convenient are they

  • All sorted out, back to plan A and Simon the builder will include replastering the landing wall in the price if it needs doing, so all better now and I'm off to town on the next bus to leave them to it!
  • Good evening all,

No snow for us yet, and to be perfectly honest I am relieved. I know it looks pretty, but that is all I can find nice about it It is very cold though.

Lyn I am pleased the shower is sorted and you were firm with the plumber, as you say it is your house and you can have what you want.

Had my 6 monthly checkup with the breast surgeon today and everything is fine. That is another milestone reached. I now have an oncology appointment in June, should have another with the surgeon next January and then no more unless I am concerned about anything. I am happy and relieved.

Hoglet how is your weather at the moment? I hope it is sunny and warm, and I hope Socks has recovered from his little escapade, but my goodness it was an expensive one wasn't it.

    Stay safe and warm everyone

    Much love

    Hi Candlelight,

I am very glad to hear about your check up being clear - that really is excellent news.

Our weather has finally settled down into what one would expect of an NZ summer - 26 degrees everyday, bright sunshine and no rain. It's delightful, it truly is, and at the moment I can't see a cloud in the sky. I have discovered blight on the tomatoes tho sadly - I have liberally applied tomato dust, but fear it may be too late. Fortunately the ones affected are a little distance from the main crop so we may escape with some fruit still, but it is all looking rather sad.

Yes Socks is well recovered now, thank you so much for asking. It must be all that love Flora sent :-) DH will take her to the vets on Friday to have her stitches out, and also take the insurance paperwork for the vet to complete. Even if the insurance pays out (there is no reason why it shouldn't but you never can tell) the whole debacle will have cost us around $720.

It really does prove the worth of having an emergency fund tucked away - it still hurt to have to spend that money but at least we could do it. I still have a lot of food tucked away in the freezer, in fact my ham sandwiches for lunch today came from the Christmas ham we were given by DH's work, so by concentrating on eating that down and generally making do with a bit less, we will be able to recoup the savings fund to its previous level before too long. DH is refereeing this weekend and they are matches that he will get paid for (most are purely voluntary) so although it is only a small amount he'll get paid (although every little helps) the real benefit is that it will stop us being tempted to do something else that would end up costing us money. I have some coursework to do so that will keep me occupied, and I'm hosting our craft club on Sunday. As we all bring some food to share there is no more cost involved in hosting, apart from a couple of tea bags and I think we can stretch to those, and also there is the benefit of not needing to use the car to go anywhere.

Goodness me that was a bit of a ramble - sorry!

    Much love,

    Hoglet x
  • Hoglet thats good news about Socks, the little minx :) but as you say what a good thing you have the emergency fund.

I am sorry about the tomatoes, hope it doesn't affect the main crop, and I am so pleased about your weather. I think I have mentioned before I would willingly hibernate during the winter, I just hate it now.

Evidently Wasps won their second match at the Ricoh, it seems to be bringing them more luck than it did Sky Blues.

    Take care
