  • FTM so sorry to hear about Simon's arm, poor thing, I hope they are able to sort it out.

I know you will manage, I think you are a very canny housewife where cooking is concerned, but it is a worry about utility bills and the like.

Good to hear about the twins, and I love the names, both of them.

If Simon has to have an operation I know Sam will be a good support to you at home and on the allotment.

Sending you all lots of love and good wishes

  • When we lived in Germany we had an earthquake that measured 5.7 on the Richter Scale. Apparently there is a fault line right down the Rhine Valley and we were only 5ish K away from the river. The quake was centred on Cologne which was 40k away but we woke up to the most amazing noise like the earth under us was a giant washing machine filled with stones and the house was bouncing up and down, rocking from side to side and back to front at the same time. It was impossible to stay on your feet and the only damage..... 1 bamboo cane had fallen over in the garden!!! They did have houses and ceilings down in Cologne though and some people were injured as well, the oddest thing to get isn't it?

FTM - you are most welcome, it gave me an excuse to spend forever in the craft shop! Sorry to hear about Simon's arm, just when all seemed to be running smoothly

We had around 4 inches of snow in Wednesday evening and it's not melting much so now it's "crispy" here which is a bit dangerous. I took my mothers two terriers for a walk earlier in the fields and caught my foot in a hole which was hidden under the snow. I ended up face down with one of them on my back, barking furiously and the other above my head tugging at my hood. I couldn't get up for laughing at the state I was in. It was an entertaining walk for all three of us"

I think the weather is actually worse in some areas South. I spoke to some colleagues in Yorkshire on Thursday and they were in a much worse state.

I'm on stock cupboard run down - we had pasta earlie to use up some baked ham which was leftiver from sandwiches and I'm thinking it may be frittata tomorrow evening as I have plenty eggs and some other veggies which I could throw in.

The deer have been back - we watched them last night as they strolled around the garden. They seem to have worked out exactly where the security light sensors are and stay just beyond them. There is a male, with lovely antlers, what we suspect to be the female and a smaller one who must be the offspring. We've taken to keeping as many lights off as possible so we can see out so I suppose at least they are helping curb my energy consumption!

I'm not terribly impressed with the new washing machine. It washes ok however a normal load takes more than 2 hours and a load of towels at 90 degrees takes more than 3  I'm not sure how it can be energy efficient. I guess I'll just have to get used to it though.

I have a rotten cold which is annoying as my bowl of white hyacinths are in full bloom and hubby tells me they are very strongly scented. I love the smell of hyacinths so I feel I'm missing out.

I'm off to move some things around in my kitchen cupboards this evening to make things a bit easier. The corner cupboards are very awkward so I plan to put plastic boxes in to make it easier to get things out. I don't have the fancy carousel things which most people have - I was being mean when we built the house and wouldn't contemplate the cost of them!

  • Hi everyone,

Had a very quiet day today, we didn't need to go out, so I decided to sort my baking cupboards out. You know what it is like, you have a few sultanas in several bags, several half opened bags of flour, and spilt sugar.

So I cleaned the cupboards, washed the jars out and re-labelled them, and I now know what I need to buy when we go shopping tomorrow. Very satisfying, it just take a while to get motivated.

I had more strong white flour than I thought, and these days I have gluten free flour as well. I always put newly bought bags of flour in the freezer for 48 hours so that no creepy crawlies hatch later in the cupboard, that is an OS tip I learned here.

Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe and warm

    Much love

Glad to have been a help flowertotmum. I hope Sam finds the information useful.

Sorry to hear about Simon hurting his arm. I hope it is fixed soon.

Made me laugh scottishminnie the thought of you flat on your face with a dog on top. I hope you did not hurt yourself.

Personally I don't like those carousels they take up a lot of room and just waste space. The basket type ones get very bent so you lose a whole cupboard. Better to have a bit you can't reach.
  • Good evening all.

We have SNOW again, not a lot but it looks as though it might stay for a few hours.

I haven't been able to get warm at all today despite the heating being on.

We popped out for a few bits and picked up DDs prescription, will take it to her tomorrow if the snow has disappeared. The cough Himself has is a bit easier, thank goodness but still very noisy:eek:

I hope you are all managing to stay warm and safe, and Hoglet perhaps you are trying to stay cool.

A short post from me tonight, it is almost my bedtime:)

    Take care all

    Much love

  • Hi everyone,

Well the snow has gone, and the sky is blue, although I think more snow is forcast for this evening.

We popped to Mr T because I forgot Flora's litter yesterday and we are down to the last bag.

I bought some liver because Himself fancies liver, onions and bacon, so that is what we are having this evening with mashed potato and broccoli. Nice comfort food for a cold day.

I am off to have my nails done tomorrow, and Himself will carry on to see DD, who thinks she is going down with a cold, I expect she has caught it from us.

Flora was rushing around the house like a mad thing this morning, almost as though the wind had got up her tail, but now she is sleeping in "her" chair. She is such a character.

I have just been wrapping up birthday presents, we have 4 in the next couple of months. Our friend who lives some miles away has a birhday of Valentines Day, so I never send her flowers then, so she has several presents winging their way to her next week.

Himself is 71 on the 17th and DGS is 18 on the 18th and DGD1 is 22 on the 21st March so quite an expensive time, but how those two have grown up, where has the time gone? I am so proud of them and of course DGD2 who is 15, it seems like yesterday that they were babies.

Hope everyone is well and just very busy, and SM hope you have recovered from your fall.

Lyn the bathroom sounds as though it is coming along a treat, will it be finished by the time you come back from babysitting the Zebra child?

    Keep warm and safe

    Much love

  • Hi CANDLELIGHT yes certainly will, He Who Knows has put the first coat of paint on the walls and finished the woodwork. It's starting to look very smart. Lovely to have a proper shower when all we had before was one from the taps and that never worked properly. The girls are buying me some smart new towels for my combined birthday present so we'll be set for a good few years to come. We had snow to wake up to this morning, about half an inch which has now gone but it's so cold out there, Docky and I got frozen noses and toeses when we walked after lunch Bbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
