Morning everyone,
Sorry I have not been posting much - I genuinely don't know wheere time is going at the moment. We had a very hot couple of days which were not easy to sleep at night, but the weather seems to have slightly broken now - still hot but at least there is a breeze. The garden is throwing out cherry tomatoes for all it's worth, the bigger ones are just starting to ripen.
I have just managed to drop my earphones into my coffee this morning and now they're not working :-( (I listen to Radio 4 online through them when I'm at my desk).
the cats are all well, if somewhat hot. They are flaked out on our bed all night.
Hope everyone is well :-)
love Hoglet x0 -
Oh it is good to see you Hoglet, I was worried you might not be well. It is difficult when you can't sleep at night because of the heat, and I must say we were like that last summer. At the moment it is so cold here we have had to put a quilt over the duvet.
Glad all the cats are fine, albeit a little overheated. I keep telling Flora what a lucky girl she is that she isn't turned out of a night time in this cold, she just looks at me.
There is nothing like the smell of home grown tomatoes is there, particularly when they are warm from the sun?
Sorry about the headphones
Take care
Much love

Oh Candlelight you are sweet - how kind of you to be concerned about me :-) Flora is a very lucky girl to have you, I bet she's so pleased she has a nice warm home to snuggle in and keep warm over the winter.
Hope you're all managing to keep warm - good idea about the extra quilt.

Good evening everyone. Sorry to have been missing in action. NO excuses really. Just life. I haven't caught up with the thread yet so will read back later.
I had the lurgy for most of last month coupled with Arthritis flares so feeling a bit sorry for myself. Am getting better now though and determined to go forward.
To that end I've been experimenting with my breadmaker. It's usually just brought out for plain loaves but today I have tried an Apricot and Almond loaf. Smells delicious but is just out of BM so will have to let it cool down before I taste.
Hope we all have a peaceful night.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Hi AOT, good to see you as well, perhaps once the warmer weather arrives you will feel a bit brighter. I have said before I hate winter and would willingly hibernate.
Are you using GF flour for the bread because apricot and almond sounds wonderful. I am still not very successful making cakes with GF flour, but I will persevere. I have made batter for pancakes and that was fine, it is just I don't think I have mastered the amount of baking powder for cakes yet, but onwards and upwards.
Take care of yourself
Much love

Evening all. I think we are all in the same boat just now, time is whizzing by at an alarming rate. On the plus side the month of January is gone, February always makes me feel brighter.
FTM -could I have the recipe for mincemeat flapjacks please? I still have 3 jars of mincemeat from last January sales in the store cupboard and it would be good to make something different with them. I did make mincemeat tart with a meringue topping before Christmas and it was a change from the norm.
We have snow fluttering tonight which means it must be a bit milder. When I left this for work morning my car showed minus 10 on the dash. We have friends currently in Florida for a month so I took a photo and emailed it as they would never believe me. Even after the 15 minute drive to the train station it had only gained one degree!
I still have the stinky cold and rotten cough. I've also pulled a muscle in my back so every coughing fit has me clutching my back in an effort not to make it worse. I must be an absolute sight for sore eyesI also smell more Vicks than Chanel at the moment but I guess it's cheaper!
MrsLW - hope you are enjoying your new bathrooms and relaxing in them when you can.
AOT - I really should try sweet loaves in my bread maker. In the book there is a recipe for Apple cider loaf, maybe I'll start with it.
Hoglet - enjoy your warmth , send some our way if you have too much:)
I've also been thinking about my greenhouse. Being a newbie to greenhouses I'm wondering how early I can get things moving in it. Will need to do some research.
Nursemaggie - only my pride was hurt. Nobody for miles around to see me thankfully. Everything I was wearing had to be washed though. Hubby couldn't understand how I got I that state taking two small dogs for a walk. He has no idea the scrapes I can get into with those two in tow!
Candlelight- Flora sounds like she has things exactly her way!
Kate, VJsMum and anyone else I've missed :hello:
Off to the garage now to take tomorrow nights dinner out the freezer for defrosting. I think it will be stovies - along with some fresh bread, good old comfort food!0 -
Greetings all from a murky, but pleasantly warm Hong Kong
I was in Singapore last week, and Hong Kong this. singapore was beautifully warm at 30 + degrees, HK is around 16 - 20. The trip is going really well and it has been useful and fascinating to meet our staff and students from these countries. obviously not a lot old style is happening for me at the moment.
FTM so sorry to hear of your woes, i hope things pick up for you soon
Mrs LW - apparently we, too, have new bathrooms and builders have gone, but i have only seen a photo so far
I think OH and DS have coped without me, though DS got a dose of tonsilitis last week - the builders had to babysit :rotfl: and LOL at babysitting a strapping 6 footer. Boy is never ill, except when i go away.
Coming to the end of the trip now, we start for home tomorrow, arriving on Friday morning. It's very nice to go travelling but is SOOO much nicer to go home - who sang that? they were right.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Morning all,
Very cold here but non of the white stuff.
Popped into town because we needed to go to the bank, and called in P**ndland to get batteries for DD. We were only in town half an hour but it still cost £1 parking.
WM now on but I don't think there is must chance of putting the washing out because it is drizzling.
FTM, I am going to make your mouth water now, the liver, onions and bacon were delish and the mashed potato soaked up the lovely gravy:D SORRY.
It is a little worrying about Simon's arm, do the Doctors know what they might do to help him? I suppose he is likely to become bored as well because he is always doing something. I hope everything turns out OK.
2 DGC coming for the dinner tonight, when asked did they want a roast dinner or chicken curry it was a resounding ROASTY, so it is chicken, roast and mashed potatoes, green beans, peas and lots of yorkies, with chocolate icecream to follow. Himself will pick them up from school at 3 pm.
The flapjack recipe looks good, might try that at the weekend, I love mincemeat.
VJs Mum you certainly get around and sound as though you have had a good time.
Sister and BIL off to the Sunshine State tomorrow because it is too cold here:cool:. I think I might smuggle myself there as well, I am so tired of being cold.
Have a good day everyone
Much love

Evening all..hope that your all ok..its really cold here today..
Candlelight..o you make my mouth water..all that liver and onion gravy..o its no good i will have to have some..as i am only one here that likes it i will make a small amount for myself..hopefully if it make it look and smell delicious they may try a bit..i hope they do..would be so good to add to my meal planner..thanks for asking about Simon's arm...the doctor is unsure of how to treat it really..he has given him pain killers and the anti-inflammatory drugs again..thing is we all knew that the silicone wouldn't last forever and that the nerves he had removed would grow back..his x-rays show whitening of the bones and more calcium build up..will have to wait and see if he refers him back to the specialist at Derby..o he is a little bored but very helpful at same time..he has taken over reading time with the girls and also wrapped them up and took them in the greenhouse to help him tidy and clean it..he has started to make bread in the mornings which is extremely good as i have more time to teach..he gets all veg prepped for tea and keep the washing machine going..bless him..i am very lucky .
Hows your girls physio going..is she still making progress..you should try the flapjack..it seems to have magical qualities as it disappears as soon as i have made it.
Well today we finished our topic on Jellyfish..not fish at all and most scientists refer to them as just Jellies..we never knew the Portugese man-o-war wasn't a jelly at all..infact its four organisms living in harmony together amazing eh??..learn something new everyday..we went for a quick walk today just around the block to post some letters and back again..was nice out of the wind..got home to a warm lovely house with hot chcoclate as a treat yummy...
Simon is now addicted to yellow sticker bargains lol..he is getting good at getting them too...
I hope everyone is ok and coping with the cold..hopefully it will warm up soon..very soon..hoglet how is your warm weather..i bet its gorgeous babe..
