  • I'm here at last. I feel like I've been MIA for weeks. I've been so busy I can't believe it!

Hi to all - I need to read the posts to catch up but I skim read and saw a reference to Dunnes Stores by VJsmum. There is one near me and I've never really looked in it so will drop in for a nosy soon.

It's been manic at work and I've had a few trips south so seen more airport lounges than I would like. Funny how years ago I thought a job with air travel would be so glamorous. Now I couldn't care less and would rather have the time at home. Guess I'm getting older!

I gave up on Christmas last week- I did some organising early although sometimes I think if I am too organised there is a real temptation to keep buying which is so silly.

I have been wrapping gifts tonight which I really detest as I'm such a neat freak. Anything oddly shaped never looks quite right. It's also a bit bare decoration wise in the house as we are off to the US on Boxing Day so I decided I didn't want to put the tree up only to take it down on Christmas night once my parents have left. I do have a lit garland on the fireplace and 3 of those lit glittery parcel things in the entrance hall so it's not completely non festive. My neighbour popped in to thank me for some letters I'd helped her write and she brought me the sweetest little robin decoration - he's fat and festive so has pride of place in the "posh lounge" which we only use on high days and holidays!

Got a bargain in B&Q Cumbernauld today -they were selling 3kg nets of daffodil bulbs for 50p each so I bought 2. I did think of buying more but thought it would be really greedy. Not sure if they will flower next year but going to throw then in the ground anyway. Worth a try.

FTM - are the girls looking forward to Christmas? I wish I could borrow them - I always think Christmas is so much more magical when seen as children see it. I heard a little girl in Mr A today telling her mother " mummy, you really ought to be more excited now that it's only 5 sleeps to go". Her mother's response was something along the lines that she was too busy to be excited to which her daughter replied "oh mummy, Santa will do everything so you don't need to worry". That really made me smile.

It's wet and windy again here - I think my garden birds have taken shelter as I normally need to fill the feeder daily but it's been quite untouched.

Shortest day tomorrow? I think - without wishing my life away that means longer days on the way soon which is good.

Charlies Aunt - I'm a farm girl and used to all sorts of smells and deposits but nothing compares to raw sewage so you have my sympathies there.

Love your phone answering responses - I favour the wishee washee laundry and the labour and delivery suite - followed by much screaming - think I may try this one out!

Take care everyone on this last crazy pre Christmas weekend - I'll try to pop back over the weekend.

    Love it :D

hi everyone, am now finished until the new year :T

12 days off!! Am having a glass of wine and listening to spotify and will be in bed by 10! My life is rock 'n' roll :D

All set here I think. Starting to get excited now!

FTM, thought of you the other day when my colleague was regretting letting her step daughter help decorate the Christmas cake as she ended up with 3 snowman and I thought "at least there's no t-rex..."
  • DD1 home this evening on the train, she has asked for casserole for supper so slow cooker will be on shortly for that. DD2 doesn't get here until lunchtime on Christmas Eve and will have to leave again just after lunch on Boxing Day but it will be so nice to all be together again, last time was August for the wedding. Have very nearly finished the shopping, just a few fresh things on Monday milk, bread etc and then it can be Christmas. I feel it will be the last one of its type this year as with baby Ezra arriving next year the routine will inevitably change and probably the venue as well with us going to visit rather than DD coming to us but it will be worth it to have him with us, looking forwards to that much more than words can say. Try to stay sane over the next few days, my coping strategy is to watch the chaos from a distance and enjoy everyone elses antics and be pleased I don't have to be in the scrum!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

MrsL,lovely that you will all be together and I bet you are looking forward to creating new traditions when baby Ezra arrives :)

Dashed to the farm shop just after 9.00 this morning and got veg, chipolatas, bread flour and bacon so there is nothing else we need. It was fairly quiet so glad I went early.

I went on Christmas Eve last year and it was very busy and they kept having power cuts. Was in long queue but as they couldn't use the PDQ machine I got to queue jump as I could pay in cash :D

There are a few other bits I would like to get, however they are not essential so I will not be making a special trip for them but just pick them up if I can.

No need to go out now until Monday which is OH's birthday, we are going out for dinner and might head out during the day, not sure yet.

Hope you are all set and don't have to venture too far, it's miserable here, very grey and dreary. Going to set a fire shortly and potter round the house for the day :)
  • Raining and blowing a gale here tonight -pleased to be cabined up, full after eating supper and mellow after a few glasses of vino-de-collapso with a nice fire in the grate :) Christmas chocolates have been cracked open....what could be nicer? :)

Ooh vino-collapso, my favourite vintage
  • just popping back at the tail end of the weekend to see how everyone is. I'm glad to see we all seem quite chilled out :)

I spent today on a flower arranging workshop which I'd bought for mum's birthday. We had a fantastic time and have 4 magnificent arrangements between us and some extras. I've kept one display as it is long lasting however as I'm off on holiday mum has the rest and her lounge is now looking (and smelling) magnificent so she is very happy. I can see this becoming an annual tradition for her and I - would also save me thinking what to buy for her birthday so a win all round.

I'm now off to marzipan Christmas cake no 2 now that no 1 is complete. I made some fondant penguins last night after watching what seemed like an easy tutorial on you tube. My penguins look hilarious - like they've been boozing and are a bit merry and one is so fat he could be a sumo wrestler. I'm suspicious of cakes which look too perfect so I'm sure the recipient will be delighted with their comic characters anyway!

Hopefully will be back to catch up tomorrow - feeling relatively calm at the moment (think the glass of wine has contributed to that though!)

p.s for some reasons I can no longer insert smilies which is very odd. I see one smily has appeared but not all - so random!
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • Morning everyone, woke up early courtesy of the bin men being noisy outside and decided to get the jobs done and make some christmas food today in case we lose power. I'm also going to work out an alternative set of meals for christmas day just in case I have to cook on the camping/garden stoves and improvise a little.

We walked out and got in the greenery yesterday and the house now looks very festive. I'm going to shop for the last bits milk etc. this morning rather than wait until tomorrow and I'm going to change my stored water so it's fresh and get washing done today just in case.

I hope you all stay snug and safe during this run of storms we're due to be getting and hopefully we'll be able to continue nattering right through the holiday. Having said that I'd like to wish you and yours a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR, have fun and keep yourselves safe, Love and Hugs Lyn xxx.
