I know what my spending triggers are, just not quite how to avoid giving in to them!!

I had thought of that, and the fact that in panicked me so much thinking about not having access to it proves that I really do need to move it!! Need to work out where to put it though. Can you get an ISA with a bad credit rating?

I will hunt around and see what I can find.

I just can't believe this is happening. The minute I decide to face up to my debts and try to tackle them, a whole heap of stuff goes wrong to end up increasing my debts no end!! Started with the car dying, and now this whole tax business.

I can really see why debt can make people feel suicidal. Its hard to see an end to it all.

I am not really seeing any evidence that my saving is having any effect either, motivation is severely lacking!!

Hi Katy ...bit worried after your last post, you sound really low, let us know you are ok.

It does seem like a mountain to climb but you are not alone. Make sure you get plenty of moral support ...parents, OH, friends, like-minded people on here

Yes it does seem like we just start getting somewhere and then something else comes along to smack us back down... :wall:

I know this feeling makes it very hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but you will get there ...it just takes time, and its so draining....

  • Hi Skint yet again,

I am ok, thank you for your concern.

OH is being wonderful, parents not so much. They have paid off my debts before which is why I owe them so much money. They use this as an opportunity to lecture me constantly though which really gets me down.

They have been lecturing about this tax situation. Turns out my previous employer hadn't set up my student loan repayments which is why I now owe money. Parents are saying that I shouldn't have spent all my wages, put some aside to pay loan etc. I didn't know it wasn't coming out of my wages though so wouldn't have known to do that. Like I have said before, I am awful with numbers so don't notice these sorts of things!

I am learning from my mistakes slowly, it just sets me back when I get lectured!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing...if we all knew what a mess we would be in down the line would we have done things differently..? *Probably, but it can't be nice to be constantly reminded of the mess we have got ourselves in

I've subscribed to the "5 OS pleasures in your Day Today" thread because I need to find some good in my day at the moment. All I seem to think about is money, lack of money, how can I make money, how can I save money.. saddo that I am.:(
I know they say money makes the world go round but this is getting ridiculous :o

  • I am doing a little better today thank you.

My spendy-phase continued a little this morning but I managed to rein it in again this afternoon. Talked myself out of paying to get my car cleaned and have decided to do it myself at some point. I'm hoping this is the start of getting back on track.

I won't be seeing OH as he is working. I feel awful though! He kept saying he doesn't do valentines day, and wasn't getting me anything. I got him the free card that has been lurking around the freebie board (quite proud of myself for that little money saving effort!). Dropped it round to him today and he had got me a lovely card, huge box of chocolates and a dozen red roses!!! How daft do I feel now??

I am trying to think of something I can make for him, or do for him to make up for it. I can drop something round while he is at work tomorrow as a surprise for when he gets home, I am just struggling for ideas.

    How are you doing today?
  • Well done you for reigning in your spending. Give yourself a pat on the back ...its not easy this moneysaving lark... I suppose if it was we wouldnt all be here

I am ok. New contract on mobile starts today so have saved some money there and closed an old bank account yesterday and found there was £6.95 still in it ...every little helps :D

Your OH sounds lovely... just remember he must love you for who you are, not what you can buy him :heart2: ....what are your baking skills like... maybe you could make him a cake ? Fairly cheap to make.

Whatever you end up doing have a lovely day :)

    Hi Katy

I would suggest the same with a bit of baking or even a promised home cooked meal at the weekend.
Hope things are looking slightly better they always seem overwhelming at the start and I still have days now when i wonder when it will all end and we are over 50% of the way there. Just keep chipping away and never forget every penny counts
