fffurious with OH

I just had a phone call from OHs best friends wife concerning her daughters wedding which is in 2013 - wanting to know if we wanted to book a room in the hotel which would cost £310! i immediately said that we wouldnt pay that much and would book a room in a B&B. and take taxis. OH is NOT pleased with me! I dont get why? we dont have much to do with this girl - we send birthday and christmas cards, and although we went to her engagement party and she IS a friend to my oldest son - I honestly dont get why OH would want to spend so much to go to the wedding!
my Oh didnt contribute any money to our daughters wedding and much to my shame she paid for our room at the hotel. her dad didnt give her a penny!
I am so angry with him - if I disappear off here its prob cos I have done him in!

Ooooh, dear. That's a difficult one isn't it? Is he cross because you have the money but don't want to spend it on this occasion or does he feel cuckolded in some way because you've made the decision on the phone to the other Mother?
Good luck with this one, going to be a frosty evening I think :).

ETA: On a money saving note, if you DID do him in, you'd go to jail and not have to pay bed and board  ;)

£310 for one night?!? Would you and OH be in the honeymoon suite? Christ.

I'd feel the same as you.

Just a thought, but might he be embarrassed because it gives the impression to his best friend that he can't afford to stay in the hotel, rather than actually wanting to shell out the money and stay there? Maybe he would have preferred to find a way to save face, whilst still attending the wedding.

Whatever the real reason for the sulk though, it does sound like something which should blow over quite quickly.
  • I think you were completely right to say that you would book somewhere else and take taxis. Spending £310 on a hotel room seems excessive. Lets face it, you would barely be spending any time in the room. It would be used to get changed in and collapse into bed to sleep after a fantastic time at the reception.

The only thing I could think of when you mentioned your husbands reaction is that for some unecessary reason his pride was knocked a bit. Does he feel embarrassed that his best friend may think you cant afford to pay that much? Men can be funny when it comes to how they are viewed by others, financially and otherwise.

  • When I saw the title of the thread and hovered over it and saw best friend and wedding, I thought he had given them one of those wretched pearl necklaces he keeps giving everybody.

    Let him be grumpy.

Find 3 more weddings and you could make a film about it and really cash in.

He didn't contribute to his own daughter's wedding but wanted to spend £310 on a hotel room to go to someone else's wedding - and he's not pleased with you!

Can I ask why he did not pay for his own room at your daughters wedding? Was it that you could not afford it, or he just didnt want to? Have you pointed out to him how odd that is because hes happy to pay hundreds for someone elses wedding?

To be honest, I don't really get why you are going to her wedding at all - I wouldn't have even thought to invite friends of my parents to mine. My parents were confused to be invited to the wedding of the daughter of one of my Dads friends last year (my mum refused to go - seeing as they'd only met the girl once).

Let him be miserable, £310 is a lot of cash for someone you admit you don't have much to do with.

I am wondering if they have to get a certain number of rooms booked up with the wedding party to get discounts elsewhere. But maybe I'm just a horrible cynic.
