I do have a question though; last year I had tomato plants which did produce, although late in the year.....but the toms all tasted a bit mushy IYKWIM. Is that a result of late planting do you know? They were different varieties, so not a bad lot of one type.

That can be caused by too much water in the run up to harvesting or left on the plant too long, too late in the season.
When it gets to picking late in the season I ease right back on watering, the toms are tastier;)

I'll have to move them, as they're in the way. But I don't know whether to throw or replant.

The larger ones look usable to me, and I've no idea about the others as I've never left them.

RE raspberries, why not get some yellow ones from a garden centre (they are very tasty, I have some and would offer you some but I had raspberry beetle last year for the first time ever and wouldn't want to pass it onto you) and go to 99p store or poundland and get 2 red ones. Do check they look alive and OK, scrape a little of the bark back with a finger nail and make sure it's green.
Some of my canes came from 99p store and I'm very happy with them.

You can have your applause when I see a picture, because I don't believe that's possible. :p

You'll notice the snow outside. If you click on the photo it might well take you to my photobucket site for a larger version.

Well, if I had a hat, I'd take it off.

    Your applause, ma'am: :T
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I think the onions will run to seed and will be unusable for cooking now, I would lift them anyway, use any ones you can and chuck the rest.

What should I do with these onions?

I didn't use them or lift them last year, and now they're growing again. Will they just run to seed?

Come on, MrBE, If you haven't used them yet, you're not going to, are you? Dig 'em up, chuck on the compost, and don't grow so many this year! :p

I would get rid of the onions, MrBE. Unless you specifically want to have a go at saving some seed.
I'm all excited today, squids are going to my mums while I crack on at the allotment for a few hours:j.

The plan is to finish moving the compost and level the ground and move the paving from by the shed. Oh and get a few seeds sown too. I sowed all my purple carrots at home the other night, in loo roll tubes so i can plant them out in a few weeks. also got basil coming up, I love the first seedlings of the year, they hold so much promise!!

Knew there was something I hadn't done yet.........any herbs, thanks for the reminder.

Today will be a gardening day. It looks like steptoes yard at present because of the fence along one side blew down in the winds last month.
It belongs to the neighbours (they are leaseholders so have to wait for the freeholder to do it) and along that side has my compost bins, stored pots, wildlife log pile, bikes, shrubs, fruit bushes and where my spuds were going to go this year.
So I've moved stuff to the bottom of the garden and it looks dreadful and I've blocked in the log pile for the house fire too.
On the plus side it lets so much more light as my garden is only 10' wide and with no 3' fence there its doubled in light size:) so I'm not going to push to get it done.

I think things in pots along there is the way to go so if they do it in the height of veggie growing I can just move things.

As you know I have builders in to build me a patio and a deck as well as dig over a new bed (cleared from old plants etc). Well I was away and they miss understood the brief so instead of digging down to 1ft and remove roots rubble etc. they thought they had to remove everything. They managed to remove the first 8in which to be fair was the only decent soil and then it was kind off too late. So £400 later they are now removing the lot down to 1ft and spreading lovely new topsoil. I am going to have the most expensive fruit and veg but bye bye to rubbish clay builders rubble soil.

Going to put my new fruit trees into 30l pots give me more time to get the bed ready. Bought 200L of compost in Marko for £8.40 it was buy one get one free. I thought that was quite good.

Patio is currently being paid need to go and check I like the pattern they are laying it in and the shape.

Loving all the pictures the only things that has seeded in my propagators are lettuce.

Little Vic, you are not resigning, it is you that has given me the inspiration to try to overwinter a chilli or 2 this year. :D Oh, and I used to be out planting in the rain, snow, hail etc in cumbria so you can't chicken out!
Haven't really done much over the last week i'm afraid. Been working silly shifts. :o
Managed to snap my garden fork last week (on a huge lump of buried concrete) and still have to get a new one.
I did pot on the two best PIP seedlings into their own pots today as they are racing ahead of the rest of the seedlings. The choc habereros keeled over the other day (all 3 of them) so have stuch some more in. :o Also my Dorset Nagas didn't surface, have stuck the rest of the pack in, will see if they sprout.
