Thanks MrBE - very useful link - don't have anywhere south facing, but will try anyway - last year a leafcutter bee filled the ends of horizontal garden canes that I had used to make a frame to hold netting over the kale, but the severe winter weather killed the grubs I think. Nothing hatched, anyway.
I'm now wondering if a fresh log will interest bees, or if it needs to season and dry out first. Hmmm....If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -

I've planted potatoes - does that mean I'll be harvesting beetroot, spinach, corn, and sugar snaps later in the year?

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

They also like the holes to be nice and smooth with no frayed edges. Mine needs a bit of work...If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Little_Vics wrote: »Do you actually REMEMBER what happened last year? My plants tried to commit suicide. I planted beetroot, spinach, corn and sugar snaps - and only managed to grow potatoes. I'm trying to kill a pepper plant that won't die and is seeking revenge by turning into a triffid-monster. I grew a mild chilli that should be 3 inches long, which morphed into a fire-breathing dragon the size of a pea. If that's 'things working out' I resign with immediate effect.
It rains sideways here, btw. Sideways. Gah.
Maybe we should rename this thread 'help LV grow her dinner 2012'!!!!
I remember you grew tomatoes (eventually).
Sideways rain will still water the plants.
Maybe you should get your own thread. :rotfl:
Nah, stay here. We'll drag you through.
We just need some pictures of what you're working with. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

You can just grow it in a damp patch of soil, doesn't need a full pondmrbadexample wrote: »I'm wanting to grow watercress.

Ok, you got me.
What I really want is to give a home to passing homeless frogs, toads, newts or whatever else turns up. With a bit of luck they might eat the odd slug or two.
