Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

Very envious of all those pics of little seedlings growing!
I still have not sown anything...is that desperate? We still have nowhere to put them if they did grow as the beds are not built yet, actually the material hasn't even been ordered yet but that is a job for tonight.
Have got my seeds, main bunch anyway, just need a few spuds to chit, that order going today hopefully. Have decided to just get one variety from the catalogues which I have never seen in a shop here but is the only spud we eat at home all summer. And then I am going to try Exquisa from Tesco which I saw someone else mention on MSE that they had no problem with and we think are very nice indeed. Only room for a few bags so not going mad with potatoes.
Plan is to plant seeds on Monday after our weekend away :j
I am in London so hoping the milder climate (Ha! not today, it's freezing) will allow them to catch up quickly with all you folks further north.0 -
I also meant to say found the discussion about raspberries very informative and curious...
My Mum grew them commercially as a money earner when I was a child/teenager...We had what ppl here are calling summer and autumn raspberries but I don't recollect different methods of pruning...am sure we did them all the same way(!)
Off to email her now to see..0 -

Gah again.
Now then, let's not get upset. Things worked out last year, didn't they? Is there any reason why you can't plant in the rain? You are fully equipped with waterproof skin, after all.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
:DPlease, please can i join.
No, I'm sorry but the thread's full now.
Ahh...only kidding. You don't have to ask.It sounds like you're in good shape to get started. I haven't actually planted anything outside yet. I haven't even done the bulk of my tomatoes inside, but I hope to have rectified that by this evening.

She may have double cropped the autumn ones. Instead of cutting the canes down, leave them where they are and you often get a 2nd crop from them in the summer. Smaller than normal but on a commercial basis it may have been worth it.
I tried it but had way too many canes with to deal with: this years summer 'will fruit', next years summer 'to fruit', this years autumn 'will fruit' and last years autumn 'may fruit' was all to much for me!
Why do you not have any canes MBE? they are soooo tasty and dead easy to grow0 -

Do you actually REMEMBER what happened last year? My plants tried to commit suicide. I planted beetroot, spinach, corn and sugar snaps - and only managed to grow potatoes. I'm trying to kill a pepper plant that won't die and is seeking revenge by turning into a triffid-monster. I grew a mild chilli that should be 3 inches long, which morphed into a fire-breathing dragon the size of a pea. If that's 'things working out' I resign with immediate effect.
It rains sideways here, btw. Sideways. Gah.
Maybe we should rename this thread 'help LV grow her dinner 2012'!!!!0
