I was wondering about this ~ does anyone keep a gardening diary?? I've written on my calendar (when I've remembered) so I know when things have been sown, but I think I'd like to have a proper diary, something that I can refer to next year even.

I've tried over the years, start off all enthusiastic and then forget, then start again *repeat till October*
I've done the same this year, only missed 2 weeks so far so that's an improvement.

I am in my warm jumper and thermals and outside:D
So far have removed loads of cat poo:mad: and cut some of next doors over hanging holly to put in pots/beds to stop their cat using my garden as a toilet.
Potted on toms with 2 'runts of the litter' staying out tonight to see how they cope.
potted on peppers, some flowers, and off to make a big mess in the kitchen filling up and sowing in my root trainers:D

However another quick cuppa is required first:)

    Stuff has been done!

Veg plot: the whole lot has been turned and some muck put it. The quince tree and fruit bushes are now in their final resting place. The mangetout are planted out, with a nice frame to climb up. The courgette plants are out under a fetching home-made poly tunnel, and the strawberry beds have been grubbed and replanted. We also have the necessary gubbings to make another poly tunnel for toms later.

Inside: pepper plant has been repotted and had a thorough watering and is much healthier. Small peppers have appeared - hoorah! Sadly the chili plant has been declared dead. Tomato plants have been bought and are settling in well, and more seeds have been put into toilet rolls. Squash plants are starting to poke up out of their loo rolls.

Flower bed: all dandelions have been lifted or liberally sprayed with anti-dandelion-gunk. Half the bed has been thoroughly grubbed out and liberally dug over with some good much.

It's now raining though - gah.

Everybody's been out today by the looks of it. Good to see, first dry day in weeks and we're all making the most of it.

Neighbour finished putting the fence up on Saturday :j so today we grabbed the chance to cut the final edge for the veg bed, dig in 5 bags of multi-purpose compost, and lay some wood along the edges for final fixing with stakes later. The soil needs a bit more breaking up but it's too sticky right now. Then a finer topping, and it's all ready for planting.

Also emptied and refilled the shed, but with hooks to hang tools on, a free standing shelf unit to hold general toot and OH fixed up a nice high shelf across the width of the housing to stash the lawnmower out of the way. While in there we found three old, tall-but-skinny dustbins so we've filled em with compost and sown some carrot seeds. Who knows if they'll do well in there, but it means we've finally STARTED!

All in all, a good mornings work. Chucking it with rain now though...

The pond is now finished apart from the edging. I'm still not sure exactly how that's going to work. :undecided

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Strange looking tomato leaves MBE, what one is it?

    Galina. The early yellow one.

My squash seems to be recovering quite nicely. :)

It looks great! Can't help you with the edge I'm afraid. Particularly like the sloping shelf - the little froglets et al will love it I'm sure.

Pond looking really good MrBE, although I have to say I'm not sure I would have put horsetail in there. Will it stay in the pond, or is it likely to sneak out into the garden when your back's turned?

I'm really bad at writing things down with pen and paper, so this year I am keeping a gardening diary on the poota. It's so easy to remember to jot things down because I'm looking at gardening websites/forums and that reminds me to open MS Word and get on with it.

I've even been a little bit techy and linked a chart from Excel for maximum and minimum temperatures, which I fill in each day from the simple weather station thingy I've got, and which is sitting right next to the poota here.

I may even add pics to it later!! :D
