Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

I noticed today that some of my seedling pots (old yoghurt pots) are looking a bit green on the inside ~ I emptied one out (a nasturtium that hadn't germinated) & it was completely sodden
I don't think the drainage holes were big enough, plus I hadn't stood them on gravel or capillary matting ~ lesson learned
On the bright side, it's been lovely & sunny today (still cold though) & I've got 3 more sweet peas popping up. Also looks like a habanero chilli is starting to appear  And possibly my first pepper'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Evening all
Today was spent mainly in garden centres (3 of them) with hubby and I with baskets and a trolley following his mum around.
Today was her 80th birthday and is spent in as many garden centres as she can fit in with a pub lunch in between every year.
I look forward to the day she can walk a little slower than me as I was the one carrying the baskets overflowing with her plants, flowers mainly except for a tray of 30 runner beans and then said she only wanted 10 and I could have the rest. With my sown ones that now makes 40! told her to keep them there for me and I''d collect them in 2 weeks as I have no where for them to go at present.
Tomorrow is looking dry:j:j:j even if I have thermals on I'm putting compost in my buckets and planting something outside.
Might try my runt of the litter tomato plant outside, it's a 1/3rd of the size of the others so if it does make it, not worried.
Thinking on it lots is going to have to go outside as I've got my new root trainers to plant up too:D0 -

Oh my gosh - so much done the last 2 days. Got to put home made fence panels up at the lottie and we are done. Off in 10 mins to catch the best of the day before the rain.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

We have also managed to get what feels like a lot done in about a day in total-spread between visitors and other jobs. The garden is looking much tidier now and the lawns are really green and lush after all the rain-which is prediced again for all day today. Although currently dry, cloudy and rather chilly. Might try and get a little done before the down pour starts!0 -

So wet down here I still cannot mow the lawn. It's really long now.
Went to Homebase and got my 24 bedding plants for free. It was in yesterday's Sunday Times which I got from FIL. Meant to be 9 to choose from but only had 5 sorts left so got mixed petunias. Nice freebie plants look lovely. Homebase also had loads of Jamie Oliver stuff on 1/2 price or better. Got 2 garlic bulbs for 99p never grown them before and I know they need to go out ASAP.
Repotted some more seedlings incl basil, coriander, tomatoes (got 3 from the free Dolmio seeds).
Done some weeding and then it started raining again. This weather really sucks I am so fed up.

Plan to move to Denmark for FIRE by Autumn 2025 “May your decisions reflect your hopes not your fears”

well hello strangers x not been on in ages, RL been getting in the way. DH had a hip op last week so it's unlikely that I'll be getting any help from him on the lotty for a while;).
went on yesterday and got a load of weeding done, also sowed another row of beetroot and planted out the carrots and parsnips in the loo roll tubes.
plan for today is to sit in front of the fire with the kids and sow all the peas and beans and some more leeks. the ones i did last month have done nothing, only 4 look like they'll go the distance out of god knows how many sown.
next week I need to finish clearing the brassica patch and get all those planted out before they escape from the seeds trays:rotfl:.
My apple tree looks like I may not have killed it after all. I gave it a severe haircut in the autumn and was told that i may have been a tad enthusiastic...it has come back to life though and has blossom so i reckon it will be back on form next year with a bumper crop.
i did the same with the pear tree and i think that's just what it needed. after 2 years with no pears it seems to be doing really well, lots of blossom and the start of lots of pears. fingers crossed:).
Still no sign of any of the pumpkins/squashes/courgettes that i did. think I'll have to redo them, it's been ages.
really should have kept a record of what i sowed and when, i mean to every year and i never have yet.freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -

I was wondering about this ~ does anyone keep a gardening diary?? I've written on my calendar (when I've remembered) so I know when things have been sown, but I think I'd like to have a proper diary, something that I can refer to next year even.
Bought some 4" pots from Poundland today so will be repotting Billy (finally!!) & maybe some of the marigolds could do with bigger pots now. I just assumed the pots were 3" when I bought them so I hope they're going to be ok.
I've decided I need to buy a bigger bit to make bigger holes in the flower buckets before I plant anything in them, meant to look for one today & I forgot.
Do I need to mix compost with anything when I'm planting or sowing?? I've just been using multi-purpose compost & nothing else for my seeds but I've seen vermiculite(??) mentioned & wonder if I should have been using some of this as well??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
