I dont understand why the dealer is asking you to do this as they would just claim the cost back from Hyundai UK. Was it the dealer or Hyundai who asked you to do the 'test'?

Have you been in contact with Hyundai or just dealt with the dealer?
  • It was the dealer who requested the test drive, still dont know why he wanted that done now and not at the beginning of the claim back in april, or when the solicitor I appointed to write to them telling them my intentions of going to the court wrote to them or when I actually sent the papers to the court and they actually put in a defence, something fishy going on, I think they have the wind up and I dont think Hyundai want the publicity. I have written to Hyundai so they know whats going on but say as the dealership told them it was not a manufacturing fault it was not covered under the warranty, they even sent their own guy down to test it from Hyundai who agree with the dealer, my own independent engineer stated that it looked as if the clutch had done over 100,000 miles not the 3500 it had done and in his opinion even the world worst driver couldnt have done this much damage in such a short time and low mileage. Hyundai customer relations lady was patronising, condescending and down right rude in her letter, I have even written to Hyundai Korea (no reply as yet) still waiting for a court date and at least I can prove to the court that I have been down every avenue. We who have Hyundai clutch problems should all stick together, I would suggest that all of you do what I did and take out a small claims summons, it only costs £80 and win or lose it will be Hyundai and the dealership who will get the publicity it will generate, go to all the papers you can think of all the car magazines, I have and they are waiting in the wings for the results of my claim. Write to autoexpress magazine, they have already done an article on me and feel sure they will be glad to print all of your complaints to. Will keep you all posted. I think they thought they were dealing with a little old lady (I am 70) who would believe anything they say and pay up regardless well they have picked on the wrong little old lady, I feel like Margarage thatcher "this lady is not for turning"!!!
  • Hyundai car warranty claims
I had to have the clutch replaced on my relatively new Hyundai after only 7k on the clock. Not covered by warranty - dealer citing 'wear and tear', 'driving style' etc as the most likely cause. Yet, I have never had to replace a clutch in any car I have owned and this is my 10th car. Also, my 'driving style' and patterns have not changed in this period.

Wrote to Hyundai who also cited 'wear and tear' and were of no help whatsoever and dismissed the claim, despite previous motor press documented cases of problems with the clutch in both the i10 and i20 models.

Is this the end of the matter or has anyone pursued a similar claim re a 'wear and tear' component and had a favourable outcome?

Hi I have well had thank god its been traded in tomorrow morning a i30 CRDI Comfort estate reg sept 11 I bought from the dealer in Feb 12 as a ex demo with 2,000 on the clock the car has been a nightmare New ECU unit new egr valve relaquered roof bars the dealership hit it twice and someone run into the back of it approx costs are £5300 spent on it so far all covered either under warranty or insurance however at 22,300 miles the clutch is now slipping Hyundai Uk and Bristol Street Motors Hyundai Exeter both say it may or may not be covered, The only way to find out is split it down it could be wear and tear because after owning the car just 7 months and only having it be as it was when i bought it for 2 weeks in the 7 months where its not playing up or been hit I decided I wasnt prepared to take the risk of forking out £500 and have traded it in. I think the customer service is awful total denial from customer service and head office that there cars are not fit for purpouse and i forgot to mention its had a new steering wheel and gear knob as the rubber all peeeled away been on there 6 weeks and doing the same again. I will never recommend or buy another Hyundai again or use Bristol Street Motors!

You are amazing as I used my car for my business I can persue a claim as I would have no business left if I waited for an outcome but have had the same problem at 22,300 miles there total denial of the problems there cars have is untrue sadly no press wanted to know about the problems I have had and its been on going for the last 7 months so pleased the car is going tomorrow needless to say not relapced with another Hyundai!
  • all you people out there with clutch problems on your hyundais who have been told its driver error, how many of you are female? dont want to sound sexist but do wonder if I would have been treated this way if I had been a guy!! Still say contact as many members of the press as you can, I think I have written to all of Fleet Street and you would be surprised who replies. Dont let the ****** ground you downl On a personal note I didnt let cancer intimidate me and I sure as well wont let them intimidate me.
  • Hi again to all of you who have been following the saga of my hyundai i2o clutch, burnt out after 3500 miles and 12 months old, said not covered under warranty down to my driving. Have submitted forms to the small claims court suing the dealership, Hawkins Motors, Blackwater Truro (dont have anything to do with them anyone) they put in a defence saying basically down to my driving then out of the blue last week one of the directors rang and asked if I would be willing to take a driving test so he could say either way whether it was my driving, took legal advice from which Magazine (who have been brilliant and would advise anyone to go to them for advice) and they said do it but take a third party as witness, this I did and the dealer said he couldnt find anything wrong with my driving, but had to clarify it by saying "at least for today" how is that for insulting? bet they wouldnt have asked a 6ft guy to do a driving test!!! the latest is they rang in the week and he said he had noticed I was not using the correct Hyundai car mats (never mentioned that when I took the driving test) and he was worried they may have curled up under the clutch and caused me to use the pedal incorrectly, at least I think thats what he said, he repeats himself that often and talks a load of codswallop.
kept my counsel, now waiting to hear what is going to happen but I am all prepared for court and would advise anyone with a similar problem to go down this road, win or lose they will get the publicity, auto Express have already printed an article about the Hyundai warranty and I have other magazines, and newspaper waiting in the pipeline to see what happens, I have paid to have the car repaired (nearly £800)as unforunatley it could take months to go to court , I couldnt get a straight answer from the dealer as to why he had decided now, after nearly 6 months of arguing to ask for a driving tesdt, why not at the beginning, or when the solicitor I appointed (a one off) wrote to them telling them my intentions to sue or why not when they received the court papers, my own opinion is Hyundai are sick of the publicity and told the dealer to sort it or maybe they have been reading web sites like this and realise I am not a one off.
thanks everyone, will keep you posted.

I cannot believe that all this can happen in a civilised country!:(
Why aren't Trading Standards prosecuting them directly?:( Such appalling behaviour on the part of the dealer and Huyndai
is definetly breaking all trading standards. Any one can see that! It is very uncivilised.
If there is any justice left in Britain you will win your case and will get an appropriate compensation for all the troubles, hassle, and waste of time you have been subjected to by unfeeling and uncivilised people.
    Please keep us informed.
    Good Luck.

  • I have an i10 and out of the blue I started getting big problems. The garage actually told me that it was dangerous for me to drive home and that I should leave it with them. They also mentioned that the 5 year warrantee would probably not cover it. It is three years old but only has 11000 miles on the clock. There is obviously a fundamental problem with these clutches. Mine had a full service just two months ago and no mention of impending doom. Just two days ago I found that I was having trouble getting 1st, 2nd and Reverse. Not a happy customer at all. If not resolved in my favour, this will be my last Hyundai for sure.
  • Hi everyone, to all of you who have been following the saga of my Hyundai clutch, burnt out after 3459 miles and 12 months old with 5 year warranty. the dealer rang today with a load of waffle (being polite now) about Hyundai making a contribution as a gesture of goodwill and would I accept, told them not interested in any contributions want the whole amount I have paid out or we settle it in court (still waiting for court date) and not interested in what Hyundai has to say as it is the dealers name (HAWKINS MOTORS TRURO...KEEP AWAY FROM THEM) that is on the court summons and as for goodwill they wouldnt know it if it bit them on the bum, they have put me through 7 months of stress and strain and no way I am backing out now for a "contribution" . I may be nearly 71 years young but will not be bullied by anyone. will keep you all posted and as I have said before all of those with similar problems go to court, have your say, they wont like the publicity.
  • I've just been told that my 3 year old Hyundai with 11,000 miles will not be covered by Hyundai as the clutch plate spring had broken - They said that this is considered part of the Clutch Plate and so is not covered beyond 2 years. This is Rodgers of Plymouth who are telling me that Hyundai point blank refused to contribute anything. I think this is appalling. Not sure what to do next... Trading standards? legal action in the small claims court? approach Hyundai directly.

I certainly will NEVER buy a Hyundai again and I'd advise everyone else to steer clear.
