If you are serious about dating to find someone special I wouldn't bother with the free ones, especially POF.
In my experience and that of my female friends, most of the free ones are full of players or people just wanting to get laid!
Which is not a problem if that is what you want!
I haven't tried e-harmony (yet) so can't comment, I have been put off mainly as it seemed new to the UK and I live in a pretty rural area so wasn't convinced that there would be many people to choose from.
Like Becky I'd be interested in other people's experiences!0 -

That's the reason I was a bit dubious about joining the free ones...although even when I tried match there were obviously guys on there just trying to get laid.Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000 -
I don't feel ready to date after a very painful relationship break up, but to cheer myself up I filled in enough of my profile to allow me to be 'matched' to guys. I hoped it would show me there are men out there if/when I'm ready to date again....but the majority of the men I've been matched with live in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Liverpool....and I'm in Belfast!!"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." My friends have been trying to persuade me to give internet dating another go, and I thought I might try e-harmony this time as I wasn't that keen on match last time I tried it. I've only heard of a friend of a friend using it, so was wondering if anyone liked/disliked it?
Also has anyone got a discount code, as it's £35 for a month subscription!
I'm not even sure I want to do the whole internet thing as I would really prefer to meet someone the old fashioned way, but to be honest I have met anyone for a long time who I've thought I could see myself with.
Thanks
Becky x
That's an expensive monthly subscription!
I would try POF if I were you! My neighbour joined last year, met a man, and they are getting married in September! :T I'm sure there are plently of people who do just want to get laid, but I'm sure there are a few decent men as well who want more. Anyway its free, you can join up and see how you get on, if you get lots of dodgy replies, just cancel your profile!
Good luck though whatever you decide to do!

Im another one who would recommend POF – I met my OH on there!! While its still early days (started chatting online about 7 weeks ago and had first date about 6 weeks ago) we both agree we have met out match and are planning long term things such as weekend breaks in a couple of months! I have only felt this strongly about 1 other person and that was 15 years ago!!!
Thankfully, he feels the same and we are very happy in each others company and are now at the stage of meeting each others families (which would normally freak me out but it feels right).
I admit, there are plenty of strange people and others who are on there who are only after one thing but occasionally there are genuine people who want a relationship.0 -
I too am interested in peoples experience with the seemingly more 'choosy' sites. It's so hard to meet someone these days and whilst internet dating / matching seems ideal (and successful in some cases) I can't help thinking whilst I look....if I meet a man on the internet...i've met a man who meets women off the internet!!! I just wonder would they stop looking! Possibly unfair and based on very low expectations of men from past experiences and too much Jeremy Kyle where every week there is a couple who met online and months or years down the line one partner discovers the other never stopped!!
No offence to anyone intended as I do believe some people get lucky...just not sure I have the stomach to not be a lucky one!The greatest gift you'll ever learn,is just to love and be loved in return:love:Nature boy - Eden Ahbez0 -
I would give another vote for plentyoffish, I met my OH there almost three years ago now, and I met a few nice men along the way too - normal people like me who just didn't have much opportunity to meet people anymore. What I did when I signed up was kept the ball in my court. I didn't put a picture on and that instantly reduces the number of people who will contact you. So it was up to me to peruse others' profiles, contact them and send a picture. You WILL get the ones who email saying "Hello how are you?", who list beer and beer as their interests, but you don't have to reply. I personally don't like the idea of being 'matched' to someone, I think it's the disagreements/differences we have that make things interesting!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

As one of the 'normal' men who has started using a dating website for all the right reasons, speaking to female friends who have used the free PlentyOfFish sites say you can get lucky and get someone who actually reads your profile and thinks there may be a connection as opposed to their thinking 'Cor, she looks fit', there are too many players looking to get laid and unfortunately this free site has many, I'm happy to be one of the minority but they do give us a bad name, so I hope you've got plenty of patience and a strong 'filtering' process that sifts through the wastrels on the site and finds you the special someone, good luck;)0
