That really made me laugh! Thanks for posting.
  • I went through e-harmony when I first heard about it around a year ago. I didn't ever pay but back then they'd give you weekends when not only could you communicate but you could see the other people. Since then I get regular emails like 3 months for the price of 1 so around £25 for 3 months I think, not sure as I just bin them now.

Why join a pay site ? well, if you are sure the other people are paying as well, then you weed out most of the crap. Poverty keeps many away and the non serious cannot be bothered to go through all the hundreds of questions and profiling things. Though I didn't pursue it, though seriously thought about it, the apparent quality of the other people seemed higher.

However, it fails when you delve into the business model. You are made to think that the people who you want to contact have already paid up, when they have not. You show an interest and they are told that you want to communicate with them. They are then lured into thinking that you have already paid up and so you are both conned into making a payment when the other half has not paid up. A few emails to the people there never got a straight answer and they just send out block emails and never answer the questions you put.

It is, as I suspect they all are, simply a variation on the ponzi scheme. However, if I was serious and was prepared to spend some time on there, daily preferably, then one of their 3 for 1 month offers, remembering to cancel the agreement, would seems a minimal outlay for 90 days of interest.

I have a very good friend who would like to marry. Which of the online dating agencies work best and give the best value for money? She is prepared to relocate overseas.
  • Hi Robbyn, please tell your friend to avoid at all costs an agency called Attrative Partners. Admittedly they are not an on-line dating agency but a very expensive one that advertises well but is a complete waste of time and money - as I have found out to my costs! I would be very interested to hear from anyone else who has had problems with this company - if so please contact me.
  • My friend in London has told me about a dating site she has had a good experience with called Lovestruck. Does anyone know where I need to sign up on the website and how much this will be as I can't seem to find it.

  • Hi,
In a moment of madness and loneliness I signed up to match.com at the end of September, I agreed to 6 months subscription paid over 3 months. I paid by Paypal, and an agreement has been set up on my paypal account.
i started e-mailing/messaging what seemed like a nice local fella, however he started talking in terms of 'we' within a week, and of moving in together, being 'in love' etc, I felt so scared I cancelled my date that I'd arranged with him. I now feel that joining was a huge mistake, and that I'm probably not ready for a new relationship.
I've decided to give the site a rest for now, despite them e-mailing me daily with all the people who have viewed my profile, I understand that I've subscribed for 6 months and that I have 2 more payments of approx £25 each to be taken from my paypal account. After these payments have been taken, ie at the end of November, shall I cancel this arrangement via my paypal account? I have read of these stories where people have been billed by match.com after their subscription has ended.

Any advice greatly appreciated as I just feel really vulnerable about the whole thing, even though it was my chocie to sign up!:(
  • Hi! He sounds a bit too keen, lol, so I don't blame you for feeling a bit freaked out! You can cancel your membership now if you want and hide your profile so no one can view you. Your subscription will still continue for the agreed time...who knows, you might feel like trying again in a couple of months!
"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." Marilyn Monroe
  • I agree with AlwaysWorking, you can hide your profile, and then in a while maybe open it back up again?

I met my husband on match.com, but believe me I met some frogs along the way (ok that sounded bad, what I meant was I had a few disasterous dates until hubby came along!)

I was like you, I got fed up and dissillusioned....then changed my mind a few weeks later, and the rest is history! :)

    Good Luck! xx

Hi, l have no experience but would say yes you should cancel the arrangement within paypal (if you can) especially if you've heard that they may sneakily take more money.

    Good luck for your future.x

    Happy moneysaving all.
