EEk that was my experience of POF. I finally bit the bullet after a horrific divorce and met a guy I'd been 'chatting to' who totally loved himself and was only after a bit of fun. Then started chatting to another guy and after a week he decided to tell me that he was married!!
I since joined Dating Direct and met one guy. We met at 8pm and were chatting until the pub chucked us out at 12pm and the next day he took himself off the dating site (jeez what did I do eh???). Apart from that I get winks off guys who live zillions of miles away (ok a bit of an exageration but you get my drift)
I've decided 2011 is gonna be my year to find myself a nice guy just not sure where??? Was toying with E harmony, Match or failing that a sandwich board in town (only joking about the last one!).
I am sneeking in on your help thread here I hope you don't mind.
Good luck and Happy New Year all0 -
I saw the advert but can't recall when it was for ... I've no need now as thanks to eHarmony I met my OH and we're getting married in March
I have to say I was a little doubtful of the whole concept but I'm guessing that I'm one of the luckier ones - it worked for me. I chose eHarmony on the cost basis, I'd rather spend a little more money and hopefully meet someone that isn't married, weird or trying to get an instant shag!
Good luck with whichever site you chose (or not) :beer:Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
I think a lot of it comes down to luck too...
They introduced a personal quiz on match just as I had got fed up and decided to unsubscribe. I did the quiz of a random guy that had checked my profile, cancelled my membership and forgot about it. He sent me a message a few weeks later and I decided to pay for a month to read it.
We have been together for 6 months on wednesday! :j
Good luck all on this thread searching for someone to snuggle with!0 -
I tried DatingDirect and met 2 guys from it, but if you are a size 16 or larger lady then Largefriends or Datingbbw are good... I joined Datingbbw (which has a really good chatroom and men both slim and larger) and met a few lovely blokes before finally meeting my now hubby 6 years ago.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0

I met my now husband on Dating Direct in 2008. I had a few chats with some blokes before him, met a couple of total nutters and one guy who was very assuming (after an afternoon coffee in M&S said "so, are we going back to yours then?!" - erm, No!)
We moved in together in 2008, bought our house in 2009, got engaged on Christmas Day 2009 and married September 2010 and we couldn't be happier :jGood wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0 -
My sister got a text message on her mobile supposedly from an internet dating agency (it was from my brother as a joke) it goes like this.....
Good morning (dating agency name) as you are aware we have had your advertisement on the internet for 9 weeks without a single reply, I am texting you to ask whether you would agree to us carrying on for another week but maybe this time without a photo?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
 That is brilliant  although if my brother did that to me I would kill him.0 -
Having read many stories of paid for internet dating sites, i would recommend https://www.freedating.co.uk, i used to use this site until i met my partner two years ago from this site, from what i had seen those using the paid sites were also using the free site. and it would be money saving using the free site0

I have personally reviewed and tested the top 27 paid and free dating sites for an online dating book that I am writing, and can say without a doubt that you get what you pay for.
Free sites earn income by pushing adverts and 3rd party products on their users and as such tend to focus on getting you to leave the site in 1 way or another as they are paid by the sites that you go to.
Paid sites on the other hand rely heavily on word of mouth, and tend to offer a much better matchmaking service as a result. They also care about what you make of the service as what better advert than " i met my partner on SOMESITE.COM" ?
The paid sites also attract a more serious online dater, as opposed to the opportunist dater who tries 3- 4 free sites at once. Additionally the top 3 sites spend TENS OF MILLIONS of pounds on improving the user experience, and looking for new ways to help you find love ( personality profiling, compatibility matching, guided communication etc)
For what its worth, if your serious about finding a partner my advice would be to look to a paid subscription as opposed to a "free site"
and if interested I can e-mail you a free copy of my book, as i think it gives a very good behind the scenes look at whats on offer and how best to chose which dating service is best for you. send me a PM

I have been looking at reviews of paid sites, and most seem to be almost a scam - mainly because they show hundreds of people - but most are non-subscribers or dead accounts, so even if you do subscribe and email them you never get a reply --130 reviews here which is a substantial amount of people , and most are scathing of Match/Dating Direct

The highest scorer at 2.4/5 is pof , despite all its faults !0
