    I've tried a few.

    Match.com was ok.
    Dating Direct was ok.
Guardian Soulmates was poor (unless you're vegan and live in London).
Plenty of Fish, I'm sure there are some lovely ladies/men on there, but it's about 90% eejits in my experience. I've chatted to a few nice ones from there though, and quite a few locals.

So, I'm still single. But I do have a look at Plenty of Fish now and again.

Maybe Girls Date For Free too? (not got any experience) or OKCupid?
  • Its been a couple of years since i used them but Match.com and PlentyOfFish were both OK.

Higher proportion of people with good jobs / careers on Match, if that kind of thing is important to you.
  • I met my husband via Yahoo online dating (free).

You will find weirdos on every dating site and you've just got to be on your guard and use your head to avoid them! I blocked quite a number of men who didn't seem to be able to comprehend that I wasn't interested in them and also a few who thought I'd be up for a one night stand.

I don't think I'd ever have paid to join a dating site. Just got to be patient and keep searching the new members and relaxing your search filters a little.

Another point to note - don't be put off by those profiles that have no photos. My OH didn't have one and it wasn't until I searched for those without photos that I spotted his profile and thought how lovely he sounded. Turns out he didn't have a scanner/digital camera. I didn't fancy him when I met him, but by the second date I had that butterfly feeling and the rest is history! Very glad that I fell for his personality first.

what age range r u in? and what r u looking for? is it just a 1 night stand etc, no matter what website u go on you will always find "weirdos" if you think because u pay for a site there won't be any on there then don't be fooled, weirdo's will use websites where people don't expect them to be, how about using some chatrooms etc like on yahoo r something like that, therefor u get chatting to the person in real time, if your looking for a 1 night stand there is plenty of websites about that cater for your needs there to, persoanlly i wouldn't waste my money paying a monthly fee and £30 a month is taking the pi55 :)

Our local church arranges Social events for youngsters aged 18+

I met my wife this way and i hope my son finds his new wife this way too. Wonderful people

I've met some people through church events...... a priest who lived with a still-married-but separated woman, and had at least 1 child by her; a chap who went to mass every Sunday yet was having an affair for several years, whilst his wife got pregnant, had the baby & then got pregnant again; a young man who died from a drug overdose (non-accidental).....

They are not always wonderful people. They are human - like the rest of us they make mistakes & have faults.

Hi thanks for all of your replies.

Im just approaching 30 and not looking for a one night stand. Although, by looking at some of the sites, thats all they seem geared for!

I guess its just a case of trying them any seeing how you get on.....I will try to filter out the eejits and trolls and see how I go! Ive registered for Match, and will try out some of the other suggestions.

    Thanks to all xx

Some of the most spiteful people I have ever met, and the ones dishing out the most vicious gossip, have been `holier than thou` churchgoers!
