OS Monday 12th February 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 12th Feb 07. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

:hello: Gooooooood Morning fellow Old Stylers :D:D:D

(Yes, I have slept ;) ) Strange noises coming from outside have me awake when I’d really rather be asleep, but I’ve tossed and turned for a good hour and nothing is happening soooooo ….

Have some menu planning to do at some point today, which I use a little computer program for, then I can print off my shopping list, check it against what is already in store at home and hopefully that will mean just a quickie at Mr T’s :)

Weather permitting, it’s to the woods with the lads, the exercise will do me good and they get to burn off some energy too. Making homemade honeycomb type sweets later and d12yo has requested some HM Victorian lemonade  (He’s not 100% at the moment so I might just indulge him ;) ) Going to have a go at making our own flour tortilla’s today too, fingers X’d :D

Have a bit of work to do on the computer front but I spent some time yesterday evening breaking it down into bit sized chunks of time, so now I have that all scheduled around other demands.

Got my eye on the post, waiting for my Tesco vouchers to arrive, should be a good one this time around *rubs hands in glee* :):)

Stumbled across an interesting web page Manage Your Money
Here is a brief overview of the six lessons in the self-study course Manage Your Money. In addition to information and worksheets, each lesson has a set of "Action Steps" to help you apply what you learn to your own money management situation
Lesson 6 came in really useful when I was giving the dining room some TLC the other day and sifting through the various papers for filing.

On the same website, there was also an interesting article on Recycling Clothing Using Your Sewing Skills I have a lovely pair of trousers that are a bit on the flared side and thanks to the advice on there, I’m going to pluck up courage and have a bash as altering the legs for a more slimline look. Got some really pretty buttons that I’ll use to update a blouse too … maybe I won’t need to splash out on some new clothes for the Golden Wedding party after all ;):D

Have a marvellous MSE Monday :D:D

    Hello Q, from Q :D ... And to all who follow :)

I'm up late also, as I am a nightowl anyway. Oh, and thanks Queenie for that web page. :)

Had a peaceful Sunday, done some housework and then went for a pub lunch with some friends, then of course stayed for a few drinks
Back home early in the evening, to do some of my online reports on surveys done on Saturday.

Cooking a light dinner this evening, my oil bottle nearly slipped from my hand, and that reminded me that I had not put the elastic bands around it yet - I usually put several elastic bands around the body of the bottle so that I can grip it easily without it slipping.

Today I'm off on another Underground survey at the other end of London, and I have vouchers for a free lunch, so... that's a nice freebie.

I made a good inventory of all my food supplies and seen that I could last till the end of the month making meals out of them - but I would miss fresh fruit and vegs, so these will be bought, meaning that those supplies will last a couple of weeks longer. I reckon I'm saving £50-60. I've had all those pulses and cereals and stuff for months now, but keep buying fresh stuff all the time. This is what I like about coming into OS and reading the threads: it makes me want to do all these simple things that save me money and make so much sense in other ways.

Have a great day everyone! :j

Good morning Queenie and Quasar and also all those to follow.

Another early start in the Smoky household today. The last week in school for the LO's before half term and I have managed to book them in to playschool for a few hours each day next week while I am working to keep OH stress free!

This week I have to alter some pants that I got off Ebay for OH that have been sitting here since before xmas and also make some curtains for one of the kitchen windows. I will get these done this week, I will get these done this week, I will get these done this week.  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I am tired of looking at them and the sewing machine on the kitchen table.

Today I have the usual cleaning to do after work, OH may potter about a little around the house now that his back has improved.

Oh well time to get moving, I hope you all have a good day and <<<<hugs>>>> to all that need one.

    Smoky. xxxx

    Good morning peeps!

housework, housework and more housework to do today , gonna change all the beds as well, once all thats done im going to finish packing. my mum is cooking me dinner tonight. if i can get finished today then tommorrow i can go out to lunch with my best friend.
managed to do all the ironing yesterday ( yipppeee have an empty basket ) my cat knows something is happening, he is starting to get a bit naughty, he allways does this if he thinks we are going away, we have to hide the cases in the spare room if he sees them then he will wee !!! my neighbour will come in and feed him twice a day and my mum will drive here and sit with him for a while each day. i cant send him to a cattery as he was a rescued cat and had been in one for ages before we got him, so he would be terified. we have had him for nearly 6 years but he is frightened of everything, he hates men but loves children ! i dont know what his past had been before we got him but i dont think it was good, but he is soooo loved and spoilt now. i will worry about him while we are gone ( and my new carpets )

my daughter was complaining of an earache last night, had to dose her up with pain killers, why do all these things happen before you go ? hope she is feeling better when she wakes up,

anyway id better get my skates on and make the lunches,
    hugs to you all

  • Morning Everyone.

Monday morning from my Paddington office, yet again, a dark miserable Monday, just finishing off my report.

I had a wonderful OS Weekend, after meeting the London crowd on Saturday Bloke and I were very motivated. We both made some new friends TKP and I really clicked, I know we will visit each other again soon.

While Bloke was out yesterday playing golf, I 'Flyed' around the house cleaning everything from top to bottom then changed all the bedding and put washing on. I also made a batch of Spag Bol for dinner and froze the rest. After this I typed a a meal plan for next week then went online and did my shopping, also using a £5 discount Tesco code off of the site.

Bloke came in and was well impressed, he decided to become a member, his user name is Blokester, Bloke already taken.

I found a great article in this month's Delicious Magazine about 20 meals for under £5, which I started to copy type and will post later this week.

After Corrie Bloke watched Top Gear while I prepared a stew in the SC for today and made the packed lunches. Bloke moaned that there wasn't anything sweet in the cupboard so at 9pm I went online and saw Icemaiden had posted a recipe for Banana Bread, I had 2 black bananas left in the fruit bowl which I was going to throw out, so baked a loaf and at 10pm we were in bed with a book and a slice of hot banana bread evening.

Do you think I now qualify?

Thanks for the website Queenie, I'll save it and print off the lessons later.

Morning. It's blowing a gale down here, really wet and windy, nasty weather.
Work this afternoon, and so the day is pretty much taken care of.
Yesterday was pleasant. great church follwed by Homer's favourites....Pork Chops!!!!
Lots of simpsons, nice open log fire... not a bad way to spend the w/end.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Morning all! DH has gone to w*** and DD is still sleeping. She'll probably there for a few more hours, so I'll be able to crack on with tidying and ironing before she gets up. We have some plans for a *sewing bee* this afternoon, while listening to a play on radio player (I think the last *No 1 Ladies Detective Agency* will still be available).

DD made some flapjack yesterday. Just tested it for quality, and it's yummy.

Have a great day, Penny. x

    Good morning everyone,

Only have one LO here today, as the other ones mum is on half term this week, although my 2 are still at school until next week, so should be quite a nice day. Not sure what we are going to do yet - might do some cooking, although tomorrow i have 2 older ones (also on half term a week early) and might leave it for them.
Not much else planned, apart from some flyladying, and i have a couple of telephone mystery shops to do, so lots of time to play today!!!
Went to Mr Ts yesterday, managed to make it an extra day before going, so hoping to stay away until next Monday, im sure i remember reading on here someone doing that, and then after 7 weeks, you have a free week - so thats the plan!!!
Right, having a quick browse whilst i wait for LO (and my 2 to get up)
    Have a lovely day,
    Take are xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
