Amazed this morning to find a queue about 50m long outside Aldi just before 8 waiting for it to open. By 8.20 the car park was full, and cars were queuing to get in.

Plenty of space in the Tesco just down the road, though, from which Aldi has taken a large chunk of trade. No need to go there, though - Waitrose is the topping-up store, and that was as busy as Aldi.

    Poor, jaded, overpriced Tesco :rotfl:

Popped in to Aldi this morning, not knowing quite what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to find it not much busier than a normal weekday.

Yes quiet in Lidl just now, staff are marking down stuff, 30% mostly.

Popped into Aldi at around 2pm - finally gave in to the craving for the Black Forest stollen and another bottle of Ballycastle. Also picked up a load of pre-packed cheeses at 50% off (including a 500g brie wheel) as have decided the big treat of the day tomorrow will be a cheese board with specialty chutneys. Could have kicked myself for buying anything from the cheese counter at Sainsburys, these were bigger truckles and came to less than 1/2 what I paid yesterday.

Am enjoying my first slice of stollen with my afternoon cuppa now!

The goods on sale at Aldi are usually not a good deal (e.g. clothes, electronics, etc) even though they say they are superbuys or sales, etc. The stuff in the middle aisles. Research before being tempted to get those.

I must say that is not my experience of the stuff I have bought there.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Nor mine - quite the reverse, in fact. And there aren't may retailers happy to give a 3 year warranty on so many of their goods.

Aldi and Lidl give only a 12 month warranty and you must have the receipt. I argued with one manager over an item of electronics that only Aldi stock - as I didn't have the receipt, there was no proof it came from Aldi, despite them being the only retailer. I stood my ground and eventually got a refund.
They will tell you if the item needs changing or repairing after 12 months, then it is up to the customer to contact the manufacturer or importer directly to invoke the 3 year warranty.

The famous Xmas pud from aldi was nice, prob one of the nicest shop bought puds I've ever had. But I didn't think the mince pies were anything special.

Absolutely delicious and moist Turkey crown and even tastier, tender leg of lamb (the secret is always let meat rest properly) - Well done and merry Christmas Aldi!
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.
