had one of Aldis 'Beef Roasting Joints' (the one in the Shrink Wrap), and it was gorgeous. Melt in the mouth tender, flavourful and didn't shrink in cooking. (though I told OH 'its the way I cook em'). we don't have beef very often - but, at this price, its going to be on the Sunday dinner table more often.

Avoid the ALDI Leg of Lamb joints at £6.99/kg and head to ASDA - just had a fantastic bit of Lamb for the Sunday Roast

    currently £3.97 a kilo :rotfl:

And don't overcook it  - Lamb can be pink :) in the middle.

While I was away OH had the Lidl frozen "Yellowfin Lemon Sole in "light" dusting" and he was not very happy about the flavour of the 20% covering - not a "light dusting" but to be fair other frozen fish has even more % covering. He said it ruined the lovely fish inside, not worth the money spent.

Surely this is one of the key differences in how these supermarkets operate and the main reason why Aldi and Lidl are so cheap

They don't stock regular brands, they chop and change depending on what they can get for a low price

Exactly why keep a line thats not selling or a low seller taking up space when theres a cheaper alternative out there.
  • I bought the cranberry and coconut mini crispbreads in Aldi last week and they are beyond lovely! They are an Aldi brand called Foodie Market and they also do cheese and onion ones. I also go the larger ?Muesli crispbreads and they were fab. Not very "slimming" when you eat as many as Inhave though!

"Slightly" off topic but the question was raised here.... how can Lidl and Aldi be so cheap ? > they do not have to satisfy shareholders.

Seems to work on the whole. I put my foot into the competition again yesterday for one particular item and found everything so expensive that I went straight out again...

Aldi special - Italian lemonade, tastes exactly like the real thing Orangina and we got the last 2 bottles...so pleased.

McCullloch29, are you serious? If you reported my last post maybe you should have read it - I replied to a question asked...

Well pleased with Aldi today. Did my usual weekly shop and went through checkout and the lady asked we had a Mirror voucher. No (we don't buy newspapers) she then asked if we wanted to buy todays paper as the voucher was in there. of course, we did. I thought it was great that they had the newspaper for sale at the checkout and asked if we had vouchers - not every SM does this!
