Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I find this generally about things disappearing in Aldi.
Surely this is one of the key differences in how these supermarkets operate and the main reason why Aldi and Lidl are so cheap
They don't stock regular brands, they chop and change depending on what they can get for a low price0 -
It varies. There are some things that have been the same for years, and others that change.
I think it is part of their formula, but it's not the whole thing.
I noticed Aldi Oatcakes down from 65p to 59p the other day, and not even a red price label or a cross-through price.0 -

I think that's probably true although similar has happened to me in other places so it's not just the 'discounters'. I remember M&S used to do some great ham & cheese stuffed pancakes years ago, they were delicious and a good freezer standby. When I asked why they'd disappeared I was told 'no call for them'. This was nonsense as they used to walk off the shelves whenever they appeared.

I've just discovered there's now a Lidl store within reasonable travelling distance so I'm planning to pop over there this week instead of going to Aldi, which, unfortunately, is in the opposite direction.
So, what are the best products to look out for? Bearing in mind I like to cook from scratch so rarely buy ready meals. I never buy cereals or biscuits or many breaded/cake products. So fresh meat & fish products, dairy etc. cleaning/household products etc.
Also, anyone that shops at both, are there any products in Lidl you feel are superior to those in Aldi?
Cheers guys :beer:0 -
With my experience with retail sales, half the time the staff don't know about stock if it's coming back or not is due to the management at store level or area not telling them.
Must be worse at the discounters as they do change product from time to time more frequently than other supermarkets. As with my previous experience with the roasted potatoes I reported earlier in this thread. (Been a weird update to that story but that is for another time.)
And like most companies do delete product ranges. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -
Just a thought - isn't it about time Aldi in particular dropped all the silly made-up brand names and rebranded everything 'Aldi'?0

Do share ;-)
Someone mentioned BBQ sauce. This is a seasonal product. I'm not sure why these days as BBQ sauce is very popular now and it is frustrating how expensive it is bar at Poundland.0
