  • This thread is good and bad buys, I find it rather strange that 'just' a shopper would be quite so supportive of Aldi and scathing of other super markets. I want to hear good and bad experiences, it is a shop and some things will not always be good.

Finally got around to opening the Aldi West Country vanilla double cream (!). If you like custard but prefer something a bit less artificial than factory made custard, this cream is excellent! Just right with Christmas pudding.

Speaking of which, I bought some of the individual Aldi 'luxury' ones and wasn't as impressed as some others have been with the large versions. The cream made up for it, though!

Is that because you don't like Stilton, or was there a genuine problem with its quality? I've always found Aldi and Lidl Stilton to be fine, but I appreciate its not for everyone.

However I wouldn't want to spend £5 on it and then discover I don't like it. I think the answer if to turn it into cheese sauce and freeze it, or freeze it in sections and then melt it into soups / use it to make cheese scones with.

I love Stilton but the texture and taste of this one was horrible. It just did not taste of Stilton!. I have however cut it up and frozen it to add to soups etc (I hate waste).

On the plus side the brandy cream was delicious!
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

500g punnet of seedless red grapes for £1 in my Lidl in Glenrothes this morning, red seeded grapes also the same price :)

They also still have haggis on offer for half price (64p) left over from the weekend offer, it is a short lead date (5 Jan) but they can be frozen.

Yes, I was unimpressed too. Just no kick to it. Rather bland. We ate a certain amount of it and I took the rest to my daughter. She perhaps prefers a less mature taste and said it was fine.

I just consumed a present from my friend - "Delicious Italian Moscato & Cantuccini". As she is Italian I assumed she bought them at the Deli but surprise, I found the Aldi logo at the bottom :T. The wine was one of the nicest things I've tried, I want to have it on my birthday!
Over the last few days we also had the Irresistible Belgian Biscuit selection, absolutely lovely. Those things make the 2 pounds I've gained since Christmas worthwhile :D

I also loved the Moscato in this set. I wish they would sell it separately.

The new Aldi five blade razor seems to work pretty well.

The Veuve Monsigny Champagne from Aldi is going down a treat here! Everyone thinks I must have spent £60+ a bottle for such good champers (and believe me, they are true wine snobs!) so I daren't tell them I only paid £9.99 a bottle :rotfl:
