  • Anyone know if the rules have changed in Aldi? In there yesterday and got into trouble for NOT taking my basket to the checkout with me.....as in I put all my shopping on the conveyer belt, left my basket at the end of the till, went through the checkout and packed my stuff into my shopping bags. Woman on checkout gave me an abrupt "next time if you bring the basket through with you!". Tried to ask as it's never been the case before and got ignored :o
  • I mentioned the Aldi big pot berries yogurt a few days ago. I've now tried the Aldi big pot low-fat Greek yogurt with honey.
This is truly one of the nicest yogurts I've ever eaten, very thick, very creamy and not too sweet or too tart.
I am afraid I ate the whole 450g pot in one sitting, :o it was impossible to stop.

I tried the Brooklea Mango, Papaya & Passion fruit yoghurt 450g (Aldi) it was very yummy.

Eh? What do you mean 'changed'? Since when have you been allowed to pack at the till?

Nothing has changed. You can either pack into a basket or a bag. It's YOUR decision. Sounds like the cashier cared more about her till speed than the customers. Obviously it's a little different when it comes to trolleys but with baskets I don't see the problem. I have worked for Aldi for 4 years now and back when I started, Aldi didn't even have baskets!! You HAD to pack your shopping at the till if you didn't have a trolley. Just remind her of this if she does it again :)

I have never ever seen this happen, to me or anyone else. Some people do bring their big metal trolleys through, but never the blue plastic baskets. These go in a big stack behind the start of the conveyor belt.

If for buying more than 4 items, I use a trolley as its quicker. I have seen customers with baskets with 20 items taking forever to pack.

Amen to that. The system I have seen is you take it all to the shelves in whatever you carried it round the store in and pack it from there. That way you do not cause queues and frustration to those befind you.
The only thing that is constant is change.
  • I shop frequently, for one person, early when not many people are around so never buy loads of items at a time.

I always use a basket, and put stuff on the belt using a system I learned about on here: the heavy stuff goes first, and the fragile stuff comes last. As they go through, I put them into my bag on wheels, often two items at a time. If any tidying and repacking needs to be done, I do it after I have paid and moved on. ALDI now have more tills open anyway.

They are time constrained on the check outs, so whether you have a basket or trolley, they need you to pack on the benches :D
