Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Just had Aldi Chili con Carne chilled ready meal for the first time - the full-fat version, not the lighter one.
Absolutely delicious - if I had made this myself, I would be pretty pleased with myself.
It's going on my (short) list of best ever ready-meals, along with Asda Chicken Sizzler.0 -
There are 2 leaflets available next week ( 6th -> 12 Nov )
1 for food and a different one for non-food
They are normally combined into a single leaflet , but possibily they have split them in the run up to Christmas ?
Thank you for this .... of course they won't have one left when I go in today, ggrrr (pretty sure here wasn't a food one last time)First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -

Had some Aldi's fresh breaded haddock the other day. Very tasty - can't complain at £1.79. But when I lifted up the 2nd fillet out of the packaging to wrap in foil to use another day (ie today) it broke into two. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I bought the Rolled Lamb Shoulder joint - but was a bit dubious about roasting it. to me, shoulder is for Stews and Casseroles. I slow roasted it and we had it for Sunday Dinner today..............it was divine! tender and melt in the mouth and the FLAVOUR - that was like I remember lamb from my childhood! Even the grandkids (not big meat-eaters, they love their veggies) asked for seconds.
Is that from Aldi or Lidl ?You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

I'm assuming from Aldi as I also bought one last week but have yet to cook it, although I'm certainly looking forward to it. We had their free range chicken tonight (£4.99 for 1.5kg bird) and it's the tastiest chicken I've had in a long time.
Their 1kg pork shoulder joint (£2.89) makes excellent pulled pork (cheaper than their ready made pulled pork) and we also picked up some Ostrich steaks this week.0 -
I hadn't been to Aldi for a couple of weeks, so was pleased to notice that they have extended their range. However, three of the products , I found disappointing:
The chilled cabinet roast potatoes were very bland and rather tough on the outside.
The Specially Selected quiche was tasty, but very thin, more like a tart. I prefer a deeper quiche, with lots of filling.
The salad bowl, I bought had to be returned , though two days off best before, as the cucumber had gone slimy and floppy, with some lettuce edges browning. This was noted on opening the pack. It hadn't been opened then left, as this could well have given these results. The replacement was ok, but I've bought better.0 -
My good buy: a heated pillow from Lidl.
I am on my second Silverline heated slim pad (in velour case), but thought I'd try a pillow and it's ideal for my back.
My only criticism is that the controller doesn't give a digital readout of heat setting, but it does draw attention by flashing when it has timed out.0 -

I've been buying the pork shoulder for pulled pork too. It's very good. I'll be buying it again this week !
Hardly any waste, just falls apart in the slow cooker.0
