1000 items per hour is a stiff target - am guessing this is a team target for the whole store and opposed to any one individual. How does this relate to queue management? My experience is that whenever a queue starts to build at Aldi, a multi-taster hops onto another.

    Not so at Lidl.

Same happens at the Lidl I use, I cant recall the items scanned per hour at Aldi, I know it was alot though.

Lidl just has the Sale boxes out - got 3 pairs of slippers (not all for myself!) at £ 1 each, a Balance Board for £ 3, a lovely bra for DD1 and a gym top fror £ 1. Their Hunter look wellies are made in Italy and they are £ 3 a pair (I hate stuff made in China) - my lucky day! - and Sketchers/MBT style trainers for £ 3 a pair

Finally tried the frozen lamb shanks (box of 2 for about £4.50 or so) from Aldi. Not bad and good that the two are individually wrapped. But, as per usual with "ready meal" lamb, there was far too much mint sauce on it. So it tasted almost entirely of mint and not really of lamb at all.

Also tried the box of Southern Fried Chicken (box of 7 pieces for around £3.50) after someone on here posted that it tasted "nicer than KFC". Er, no it doesn't. In fact, it was pretty horrible. Can't ANY shop do a decent southern fried coating? The Bird's Eye one is rubbish as well.

So, one thing I probably won't be buying again from Aldi and one thing I definitely won't. That rarely happens. Oh well, still plenty more stuff I'm looking forward to trying.

Next up, I've got one of their non-frozen £1.50 Ham & Pineapple pizzas. The £1 frozen Carlos ones are lovely and a bargain so I have high hopes for this. It certainly looks scrummy. Will have it tonight while watching the USA World Cup match.

KFC is not proper southern fried chicken!!! You only get proper southern fried chicken in the deep south of the USA
  • Aldi carbonara sauce, 89p a jar, brand called Cucina. Delicious. I normally hate the jar stuff and only like the stuff in the fresh aisle but this is gorgeous and the kids love it too.

Scritti - Have you tried Homepride Cook & Coat Southern Fried Chicken?
I've only ever seen it in Sainburys and you really have to search for it as only a couple of boxes at a time are usually on the shelf. It's the best coating I've tasted. They are in blue packets.

or you can cook it yourself ;), Nigella had a nice recipe, but it was a lot of work (marinade, cooked in milk I think then breaded and deep fried), it's all in the spice mix

Agree with this and the lasagne sauces are really good too for making your own lasagne cheap and healthily

Can anyone comment on the teabags in Aldi please? We have been using yorkshire tea for some time as I had stocked up but we are nearly up and I would rather buy something cheaper. We have been doing half our weekly shop in Aldi for about 6 weeks now, so thought we would give their teabags a try if they are any good?
