My local Lidl store started stocking the fresh in breadcrumbs Cod and Haddock fillets. There was always much more Cod than Haddock and a lot of Cod being reduced until I had a word and informed them that we are traditionally a "Haddock Town".

Result nearly all Haddock and plenty to go round . So at least some Lidl staff listen to customers.

My point is, though, that it shouldn't be necessary to check every till receipt. Aldi has a particular problem in this area, and it risks losing the trust it's worked hard to build up.

There is no excuse whatever for three errors in one smallish shop.

To be fair, it is smart to check every receipt from wherever you shop. I have had the odd glitch at aldi, but likewise asda, tesco and pretty much every other shop I have shopped in - let the buyer beware :)

Some of the errors are human, some are system generated (like not updating prices) but however it has happened, it's your money so it makes sense to double check before you leave the shop.

  • I have shopped in Aldi for 25 years, when a branch opened in our town. I have always checked my receipts and in all that time there has only been one error - the cashier forgot to knock off the £5 voucher I had given him before he checked my groceries through. When I went back to the till he offered profuse apologies and gave me the £5.

When our Asda opened I thought I would give it a go. Every week I had to go to Customer Services because of a pricing error. After 5 weeks I'd had enough and it was back to Aldi, followed by Sainsbury's for my small top-up shop.

Now that I've praised them our Lidl bakery has stopped selling the German Pretzels. When I asked they said they couldn't get them in but I think that's nonsense, they probably didn't sell that well as folks don't know what they are. Shame...

I shop at Aldi every week and always check my receipts before starting to pack my stuff. Nearly every week there is something that has been scanned twice. There is never a problem with refunding it but it's the speed the cashiers scan the stuff that causes the problems. Some see it as a competition, "how fast can you get this stuff back in the trolley" some aren't so bad.

It won't stop me going there, i love Aldi, it's just something i need to do. My £30-£40 a week saving against a Tesco shop is more important than having to take a few extra minutes to check my receipt !

Today I spotted a few 'trick' price labels on Aldi items -

    6 cans of Coca-Cola was £1.99 now £1.98

6 pack of Pink lady apples was £2.18 now £1.99, haven't they always been £1.49?

Despite this basically being an Aldi-lovers thread (and Lidl, of course) there are warning signs here for those nice people at Aldi to take note of (and they will be watching the thread).

Cut out the overcharging and steer well clear of Tesco-style trick pricing. And I say that as someone who's posted many pro-Aldi posts. It is possible to kill a golden goose.

There is 1 aisle with reduced non food stuff in there.Dont get me started on the plants as no one waters them and within days they die and then the shop throws them away and thats always happening so profits are being wasted so much.
Aldi really should get a top office manager and put him to work on the shop floor and see the waste.
But i still prefer to shop in the than Mr T any day.

The plants in my local Aldi are only good on delivery day, too. They are a terrible advert for the store, as they're placed right outside the front entrance.

I appreciate all the reasons for the checkout speeds at Aldi, having shopped there for years, but you know things are going too far when you find on your receipt that they've overcharged quite substantially.

One item - two purchased - four put through the till
Another item - one purchased - two put through the till
Vouchers taken for both, but no discounts given.

It's beyond a joke now - having to cross-check every till receipt to check there are no duplications or 'strange' items just added on. I'm a big fan of Aldi (and Lidl) but this overcharging simply doesn't happen anywhere other than Aldi, and it's likely to cause serious reputational damage if the press latch onto it.

Check your receipts carefully to see what might have been added on by an overenthusiastic checkout operator. I'm not in any way suggesting it's deliberate, but it's happening far too often for them to ignore the problem.

Agree from previous personal experience but on recent large Aldi shops where I've checked, its been OK.
