Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I read this post with great anticipation and searched Aldi high and low for this product but couldn't find it, so I went to the 99p shop and bought a pack of 4 Daim bars.
I read the post again and discovered it was Lidl so I went there and bought a bar.
I've just done a head to head and have this to report -
Lidl bar (69p/100gm): chocolate tastes vile, caramel crunch sparse and tasteless.
Daim bar (99p/112gm): chocolate smooth and creamy, caramel crunch solid, right through the centre, and tasty.
Winner: Daim bar, easily worth the extra 2p/gm.
Yep, Lidl's cheap-range Fin Carre chocolate is absolutely cr*p. Doesn't matter what else they mix with it, it's still surrounded with brown candle wax.
Aldi's cheap-range (DairyFine) isn't great either but definitely better. I wouldn't eat it on it's own but it's good enough when mixed with other stuff. The DairyFine Racer bars (Snickers clone) are well scrummy!
Aldi still have some easter stock left over in some shops. I bought a couple of bags of their DairyFine Mini Eggs (clone of Cadbury Mini Eggs) for less than 40p each half-price. Was expecting the worst but they were surprisingly lovely.0 -
Aldi's Moser Roth Limited Edition Blueberry Pannacotta chocolate...just mmmmmmmmmmmm
Oh, and their Gourmet Angus burgers are every bit as good as, if not better than, Waitrose GBK burgers and just half the price :j“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Found an Aldi product I'm not happy with - the all-in one dishwasher tablets!!
All my glasses and black gloss crockery have come out with white marks and look dull. Just hope they're not ruined
Don't know whether to bin them and go back to using Finish Quantum or go and spend more money on dishwasher salt and rinse aid in the hope it might help, despite claiming not to need them “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I've got this 'won't pay more than £1 for 150g' rule whether it's multipack or family size bags. I do try to avoid buying crisps (the most mse option;)) but current favourites are Seabrooks ready salted which are good value in Farmfoods.
I buy the ordinary, basic tablets from Aldi or Lidl but I do use salt and rinse aid (Lidl) as well. My DH hates the warning lights going on so we use all three products. Not sure how it works out money wise. I indulge him!;)0 -
I have tried the lidl and aldi crisps and they are very greasy, however, the lidl deluxe hand cooked crisps are amazing, 99p for a big bag, or 6 small bags for the same price - and the XXL bags of tortilla chips are to die for; just bought 2 big bags - think they were £1.05 each, and right now they are in the XXL range so bigger than normal bags - LUSH0

I've gone right off Lidl baby or jersey royal potatoes. I've bought three lots just to make sure I didn't get a duff bag and they have all had potatoes with black blemishes inside and prone to go soft and smelly in parts quickly. Had to bin more than i used. Wonb't be buying them again. Must do better! Really have to watch their potato quality before buying.
Another thing I tried was the frozen Wild Salmon filets - very dry and unpleasant.
As I think someone else said, their onions and sometimes a bit soft, not a good sign and I don't buy them as there is a lot of waste and taste is not good.
The Museli both the fruit and nut and the fruit only are excellent and so cheap. Deffo recommend.
Bellarom Italian and French ground coffee are both excellent and this week for some reason down in price from I think k 1.89 to 1.49. Great bargain so I've stocked up for 3 months.
The Premium frozen Cod/Haddock filets in Batter are very good indeed. Proper fish filets (rather than the mushy stuff often in BEye and HarryRamsden) and nice and fresh tasting and white, cost is roughly 60% of big brands and much much better. Not sure if portion size is smaller, but I prefer quality.0 -
I really like the kitchen strip lights lidls do.
I started replacing my old ikea kitchen strip lights, as they failed.
The lidl ones are much better.
I'm waiting for them to come round again (2 for £20) to grap another 2.0 -
Try B&M, if there is one near you, for branded crisps as they are often on good offers (e.g. 6 packs for 49p)0

Just had an Aldi Duo Crunch vanilla choco hoops and the yoghurt is thicker and creamier than Mullers crunch corners.
Still I am picky with Aldi's yoghurtsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Aldi - they were selling off crystallised ginger for only 49p per 200g pack. Usually 99p.
Worth a look.
