Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I for one hope they do not accept Credit Cards.
I understand that C C companies can charge the retailer up to four percent of the total bill. And that will mean lower profits or higher prices
Or Aldi have a policy that you must spend a minimum of £40 to pay by credit card. So if I want something which costs £30, a few bottles of wine to bring it to the £40 mark will be nice
If for example with the soup maker I could not buy as I had enough money in my current account to pay for it, but I had nothing in my bank account until pay day and I don't want to spend £3 on food with a credit card.
I suspect the reason behind their Scottish stores accept credit cards is because customers travel further and therefore do shops less frequently and buy more. But there are places in England which are in the sticks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Why would you care if Aldi made less profit?
M&S made the (sensible) decision to accept cards because it finally worked out that the money it was losing by not accepting them was greater than the processing fees (which will be a great deal less than 4 per cent for a large organisation in any case).0 -

I remember at school, in the late 80s when we brought in our packed lunches, we got teased for having Tesco or Sainsburys own label crisps and chocolate bars.
Do kids today get teased for having Aldi/Lidl brands?
Not at my DD's school. Although one friend did make a thing about not shopping at Aldi and who did we see driving in as we were leaving a fortnight ago!0 -
No!
Schools are very strict with packed lunches and crisps / chocolate bars not allowed at ours! Of course school dinners provide either sponge and custard or icecream every day...
That is ridiculous. Primary school age children need a lot of calories compared to the size of their tummies. I understand if all they are bringing is crisps and chocolate, but one or other as part of a lunch is fine.0 -

I shop at Aldi 2-3 times a week and here is what I normally get :-
Bananas
Onions (perhaps go off a little quickly, but store well)
Maris Piper potatoes (great quality but sprout quickly, even after taken out of wrapper straight away)
Pole and line caught tuna 4 pack (great quality)
Sandwich Bags (better and cheaper than any other)
Mushrooms
Frikadellen (some sort of German type burger - although processed a look at the ingrediends will tell you there isn't really anything bad in them)
Sweetcorn
15 pack eggs
Kidney Beans
Peas
And a great selections of ale/beer. Have been on recently at £1.25 for good Real Ales (I know Lidl have some too at this price) compared with £2+ in supermarkets.
Also my food budget is looking very healthy!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Has anyone noticed the latest Aldi advert cuts to an image of the produce section which has LOOSE items like oranges which you cannot buy loose in Aldi? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The chocolate digestives are back ! Smaller pack but cheaper than before. Not opened them yet so can't comment on the taste.
I went today and picked up two Tupperware type sald bowls with a fork and pot for separate dressing attached to the lid. They were marked at 2.50 but scanned at 1.50. Very happy !
The Mexican lime is very good for margaritas !0
