They used to carry a gorgeous dairy-free ice-cream with a mousse texture, but I've not seen that for ages. We get short-changed on chilled & frozen desserts! (Aldi, are you reading??!)

Naturally, going round the store reading all those snack packets, I was forced to buy a trolley full of 'em :naughty: so will be looking for advice on a budget wardrobe of XXXL very soon!

Thanks cherryaa I did pulled pork in the slow cooker for the first time 2 weeks ago and it was lovely. The Aldi price is great. I bought a yellow stick one in Tesco £6.?? down to £3.??

I withdraw my recommendation of the Aldi Bramwell ketchup. I was having some tonight with my dinner and thought it tasted a bit different (a bit more sour and a fuller mouth feel). I still have the old bottle (the dregs of which I will use in cooking). So I did a comparison and noted the following:

    1. Old bottle has 189g of tomatoes in every 100g of ketchup, whereas for the new bottle it's only 132g of tomatoes.

    2. Old bottle ingredients are tomatoes, sugar, spirit vinegar, salt, spices, citric acid. New bottle ingredients are tomatoes, sugar, spirit vinegar, MODIFIED MAIZE STARCH, salt, spices, natural flavouring.

    3. Nothing to do with flavour but the old bottle was 502ml/563g and the new bottle is 500ml/560g.

    4. I noticed the new bottle does not carry the Good Housekeeping Institute Approved 2012 that the old one did.

Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted.

I wish now I hadn't bought that replacement bottle last time. I'll check the ingredients in Lidl's ketchup tomorrow and unopened Bramwell's might go to the food bank collection.

On the note of ingredients, Lidl had lovely tasty Greek feta and spinach snails as specials a while ago - then I looked on the ingredients and all the Greek frozen pastries had hydrogenated/ transfats in them when other supermarkets were fading them out...haven't seen the pastries for some time though.

Bought the Aldi chilli Hallumi with the vouchers from the Mirror and loved it.

Looking forward to trying the non chilli hallumi waiting for me in the fridge.

Wow. About twenty years ago I cared for children on a dairy-free diet and buying snacks and treats was near impossible. Their Mum was lovely, she would often send them in the morning with a box of goodies she had baked and prepared the previous evening - I also learned a host of dairy free recipes that we made together.

Chameleon, from your comment, I think you missed seeing the 'Dairy free snacks and treats' subheading. This isn't a shopping list, just a treats list. :)

Sorry, yes I did. In that case I'll retract my other thread, Sorry :o

I bought the chilli halloumi with the voucher too. Had it sliced and lightly cooked in a griddle pan to get the char lines. Enjoyed it with a salad and pitta bread and it was very nice, not too spicy hot, but had a kick.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
