Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Any generic medical /vitamin will always be a lot cheaper then a brand. I have never understood why anyone would buy ( for another example ) Anadin or Nurofen tablets when the active ingredient in a shops own product is exactly the same , but at a fraction of the price.
No, neither do I. But some people do which is why I posted for the benefit of those that do. I've previously bought Waitrose generic version of the same tablets and they were £1.99 so still considerably more than the ones at Aldi.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Aldi also sell heart burn tablets, with ranitidine.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I normally do a weekly home delivery shop with Tesco and roughly spend £50 - £60. Lidl has just opened up a 3 minute walk from my front door, and i done a weeks food shop there yesterday to compare with Tesco and i spent £39.70. The only downside is having to carry it all up a hill and 3 flights of stairs with a bad back but for that price its worth it once a week! I also nabbed 2 whole frozen rainbow trouts for £2.49 which will be served tonight with fresh asparagus (cheap and in season now)
I also popped in there at 8.10am this morning on the dog walk and bought a fresh baguette that was still hot from their bakery section. Amazing. Diet has gone straight out the window as im now addicted to their doughnuts and fresh rolls and bread.0 -

:rotfl:me, too.I'm so glad they don't have bagels (yet) ...
The trolley price guess is a bit of a game of mine and at Lidl and Aldi I almost always pay less than what I anticipate and roughly calculate before I pay, at T and M I always pay more, wonder why that is....First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
My DH loves the Lidl luxury muesli, especially the one in the blue bag which has won a Good Housekeeping award. I only go to Lidl occasionally so I stock up when I'm there.
According to the article in the link below the blue bag Lidl luxury muesli is made for them by Dorset Cereals.

Then rather than going to Lidl or Aldi, perhaps a trip to the doctors would be more beneficial.
If you're taking these things all the time, there's something wrong, and you should get it sorted.0 -
I like peanuts and thought I would try the blue bag from Aldi, I think Clanceys is the name, they are ok but definitely not the best I've had.0

We've just had a new Aldi open up reasonable distance.
Bought the following
Italian ham, absolutely delicious
Tomatoes, pack of 6, much cheaper than M or T, taste the same
They had run out of their advertised stir fry beef so I bought a pack of quick fry steak and chopped it up. The knife went through it like butter, the cat went berserk for her bits!
3 large limes for 39 p. Couldn't believe it and they were so juicy
Looked at self watering pots, good size, only £3.99. I said to OH they are a lot cheaper than Stewart brand you find in garden centres and lo and behold, what did I find stamped inside, Stewart.
Made my day!0 -
tried a carton of this aldi product, from chiller cabinet. Appleby farm or something.
Pork is cooked for 40 mins in oven then taken out and pulled apart with 2 forks until shredded. Then open sachet of sauce, pour over and put back in oven for another 5 mins.
It was delicious - really tender, although the sauce (I think barbeque flavour) was extremely peppery hot, too hot for my taste really. Next time would use a different sauce to the one supplied but would def buy product again.
Can thoroughly recommend.
Quantity - serves 2 or 3 if meaner with portions as we were.
