Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Did you get the 75p 1kg bag of oats? I already use them and they are much more creamier than the equivalent basics/value range from the large supermarkets which are around the same price.
Lovely daughter's verdict on Aldi's 75 p Everyday essentials porridge oats: "powdery and horrible". Not a big loss for me as the hens and ducks will eat them but back to Lidl's or even T's value for pre-school breakfast. I looked to see where they come from but no country of origin I could find on the packet. Lidl's used to come from Germany and they were nice but might be from Britain now (still nice).First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
People must have already mentioned Aldi's 85% cocoa chocolate - £1.09 for 125g in five little bars, and delicious! All their Moser Roth chocolates are really good. As I'm dairy-free I also appreciate that they stock cakes, biscuits & pies without dairy ingredients: usually the cheaper ones, and very nice
Bread flour's good - some bakers say it's the purest on the market, whatever that means - at 99p for 1.5kg. Home baking ingredients here: https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/fresh-bakery/home-baking/ingredients/
I'm moving soon, and one of my criteria is 'within walking distance of an Aldi'
HI
Im also on a dairy free diet (lactose intolerant) what items are suitable as i haven't managed to see anything for me there

As an addict of cadbury's chocolate bar containing Turkish Delight but a bit pricey at 2 quid, I thought I'd try Aldi's Dairyfine bar today. Scrumptious and much better than the Cadbury one. 89p I think.0

Now as you lot brought the topic of chocolates up again - I've now tried Lidl's Hazelnut Ganduja (sold as flavoured chololate Fin Carre I think) and it's utter heaven , daughter had the Almond Brittle and she said it's better than Milka Daim. I think they are 69 p but even if it's more I don't care!First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Just a note to remind/inform those of you who are new users to Aldi and Lidl that you pack your goods straight into the trolley, then go to the counter at the back to pack your bags the way you want to.
You don't pack bags at the checkout, that's why there's no room there for them.
And it doesn't help you to whinge at the cashier that there is no room for your items, or ask them to slow down with the scanning, or to ignore them when they point out that bags are to be packed at the back of the store.
I appreciate that no one tells you this stuff, and there are no notices up at the checkout to tell you this is how it works, so here is the information you needWho made hogs and dogs and frogs?

These where part of the weekend half price offers recently. I bought a few of the different varieties and to be honest I didnt get overly excited by them.
I always buy lots of the basic Finn Carre range when they turn up on the weekend offers at around 20p for 100g, but these more expensive versions didnt appear to offer much more in terms of taste/flavour.0 -

I'm glad that tastes differ- all the more for me :rotfl: I never got a taste for Cadbury's and Galaxy but lots of people love them.

The Aldi Bramwells ketchup has also become the standard ketchup in my home.
I withdraw my recommendation of the Aldi Bramwell ketchup. I was having some tonight with my dinner and thought it tasted a bit different (a bit more sour and a fuller mouth feel). I still have the old bottle (the dregs of which I will use in cooking). So I did a comparison and noted the following:
1. Old bottle has 189g of tomatoes in every 100g of ketchup, whereas for the new bottle it's only 132g of tomatoes.
2. Old bottle ingredients are tomatoes, sugar, spirit vinegar, salt, spices, citric acid. New bottle ingredients are tomatoes, sugar, spirit vinegar, MODIFIED MAIZE STARCH, salt, spices, natural flavouring.
3. Nothing to do with flavour but the old bottle was 502ml/563g and the new bottle is 500ml/560g.
4. I noticed the new bottle does not carry the Good Housekeeping Institute Approved 2012 that the old one did.
Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted.Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -

Both of these are introductory offers and will go up to £2.99 in due course. I've tried both and absolutely love them!
