Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

They often have the tops open - annoyingly - as the cardboard tear strips make the tops fragile, but the bags inside are sealed, so they are safe to buy.
Funny you should say that. They use cheap packaging on all the cereals to cut costs, and, whilst it does that, they don't really stand up to normal handling, do they?
Small, insignificant, minor irritant, though.
On an unrelated matter, has anyone noticed the very short-dated milk in Aldi over the last few days - just 5 or 6 days, as against the usual 10? Found this in a couple of stores. I wonder if they're in the process of changing suppliers again.0 -

One other curiousity with Aldi is that people often seem to leave empty cereal boxes (and not generally the damaged ones) behind in the packing area, I've never quite figured out why!Stompa0 -
Ahead of this weekends chocolate half-price offer, my local Lidl (Glenrothes) has Fincarre premium chocolate on offer at 57% off (29p/100g)
The different flavours that I spotted were:
Milk Chocolate Almond Caramel
Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Gianduja
Milk Chocolate Cornflakes
Dark Chocolate Cranberry
Dark Chocolate Ginger
White Chocolate Cornflakes
There may have been more but I was pushed for time and didn't look in the boxes below.0 -
Some do, some don't, it seems to depend on the type of cereal.

I only buy porage oats from Aldi an they come in a robust, classy looking paper sack.0 -

Think you misunderstood - I meant no biggie that I like the ketchup and you didn't.
Keep the comments coming on your views - the more the merrier as might lead me to try something I've not bought yet!0 -

I've seen customers discarding empty cereal boxes in the packing area, they tend to be people who don't go by car to Aldi and therefore need to carry their shopping - I guess it's easier to fit a bag of bran flakes into a rucksack than the whole box? Takes up less room?DFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -

I wonder if the people who do this are passing off Aldi cereals as brand names ones for fussy eaters who insist they will only eat Kell0gs etcNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0 -
I go to Aldi for £ 2.99 wines and the fruit and veg offers. Chopped tomatoes are very good quality.
My cat hates their cat food though so won't buy that again
Lidl for most of my staple purchases, milk, cheese, white bread, flour
The ketchup in both is a bit thin for my taste, needs a good shake before use.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
Been shopping in Lidl for years but have only really started using Aldi in the last year as my local Aldi can be a pain to get to traffic wise, so normally only go every 2-3 weeks or so.
I can't for the life of me remember if I've posted my regular Aldi buys in this thread before, here goes anyway
Aldi gin - I'm a gin lover (Williams, Plymouth, Bombay Sapphire, locally produced gins etc etc) but also love the Aldi gin.
Aldi bran flakes - Bargain price, taste absolutely fine.
Aldi version of Shredded Wheat - OH loves these.
Aldi Strawberry crisp cereal - Used to buy the Lidl version but it disappeared so now buy the Aldi one from time to time - a bit sweeter than the Lidl version but still lots of strawberries pieces.
Aldi Kooliburra Shiraz - Doesn't give me a headache like a lot of Shiraz do, tastes to me like it costs more than £3.99.
Aldi orange juice (both the long life version from concentrate, plus the fresh version not from concentrate)
Aldi Magnum All In One dishwasher tablets
Aldi Cornish salted butter
Aldi kidney beans
Aldi chopped tomatoes
Aldi baby leaf salad
Any of their fruit/veg/salad that I feel like that week - not had problems with the stuff keeping as fruit and veg never hangs around long in our house
Aldi red and green pestos
Aldi frozen peas
Aldi gammon joints - normally buy the 750g one for £2.99, roast it for 1 1/2 hour wrapped in foil, great for chopping up once cooked for lunches, pasta bakes, pies etc.
Aldi free range chickens - not the biggest chickens in the world but all the ones I have had have been lovely and tender.
Aldi cheese twists - even cheaper than the Lidl ones.
Aldi low fat cream cheese
The only thing I have bought from Aldi so far that I wouldn't buy again are their version of Weetabix - they tasted a bit "malty" (don't think they have malt in them though?) Just a matter of taste, nothing to do with the price or label.
Most of my grocery shopping is done in Aldi, Lidl and Costco, plus we get most of our meat from a butchers and all our fish from a fishmongers, and we spend a lot less than we used to when we did all our shopping in Tesco and Sainsburys.
My local Aldi is always busy, whatever time of day I go - it can be a bit difficult to navigate a trolley full of gin around the store when there are lots of cages of stock waiting to go on the shelves blocking part of the aisles, but the prices and quality of the products makes up for getting stuck in a trolley jam in the frozen food section everytime I goDFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -
Aldi's own doritoes are really nice. Better than Lidls. The chilli ones are my favourite, lots of flavour.0
