Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Quick thumbs up for Aldi's ultra-balm tissues, these are 3 ply and very strong.
I bought some 'Kleenex Mansize Compact' the other week.
These are nowhere near the quality of the Kleenex Mansize of days gone by. The new Kleenex are just 2-ply, and you can literally read the paper through them.
So facial tissues are one more thing that I'll be buying in Aldi from now on, to add to a long list.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
This is only vitamin c
It means that the quality of the flour is poor, not strong enough and it needs a little help. It's basically a poor quality product compared to flour that doesn't need it.Dazedandconfused wrote: »Is yours from aldi branded? My strong bread flour is from Aldo but I'm sure it's branded not Aldis own

Thanks for the reminder, we used to get these regularly but OH went off them. I picked a pack up for me today, they're great with salad in a wrap!
As an aside, I went to a different aldi thank usual as I was in the area, and they'd re-arranged the store round so the fruit and veg was as you walk in, then the bread etc. Basically everything had moved apart from the fridges, freezers and non food stuff in the middle. Is the way they are all going, it took me more than my usual 7 minutes to go round as I had to hunt for everything again!0 -

interesting Lidl and Aldi are the only supermarkets (at least that I've been to) that don't follow the standard layout with fruit and veggies first (all based on scientific evidence of consumer behaviour no doubt), maybe they are testing that layout too0 -

I bought Aldi's flour for the first time (I normally use strong bread flour from Sainsbury, and SR/plain from Lidl).
When transferring it to a new container I noticed that the flour looked a bit lumpy, which I've never seen before, and then I saw that it contains a flour treatment agent, ascorbic acid, which is not used in other supermarket's own brand flour as far as I know.
Regardless of the results I'm not going to buy flour that contains additives, and I'm getting more and more disappointed with Aldi, so I don't think I'll be rushing back there any time soon.
We use Aldi bread flour regularly, with no problem at all. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is frequently used in strong (bread) flours to improve their performance. Waitrose use it in their own bread flour, too.0
