Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Off to do battle in Aldi today as I have my £40 voucher to spend. I remember the days when I had the place to myself
Couldn't find the sandwich thins in my branch, but will check again today. Noticed last time I was in, they had chopped veg for soup mixes, probably not as moneysaving as doing my own, but might give one a go.You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
the ee sausage rolls are ok but have a flavour of sage and onion stuffing, pastry is good.
imo the supermarket own brand are better, but its not a deal breaker to stop me aldi shopping.:)0 -

Strangely I was thinking much the same when I noticed they were doing some chilled ready meals. I suppose now they're trying to attract customers who don't have the time/aren't prepared/don't know how to cook from scratch.0 -
Dishwasher salt. Sold out in our Walton Aldi. Seemed to be quite a few cases of the 2K bags in Feltham Aldi today. 99p. Good price, if it is any good. I have taken a chance on three bags!0

You may be surprised. I buy grated cheese as it's cheaper per kg than block cheese.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Yes, I'd noticed that grated cheese was cheaper than block in Aldi and did a classic double take. Not what you expect!
I use block cheese in slices just as much as I do grated, though I did try it out of interest at Christmas and as expected, it was fine.
If your Aldi store has any drums of the Italian finely grated hard cheese left - they were on Specialbuy a few weeks back- do get them if it's your thing. We love this one.
Their own Parmesan in a piece is also very palatable and very reasonably priced.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Response "Ooh no. I can't shop there. I know I buy value stuff, but at least they deliver it."
The Aldi/Lidl factor still have a long way to go with a lot of consumers. Granted the delivery is a bonus for some, but she's a SAHM. She has time in the day to push a trolley with a 2 year old round a shop!
Just doesn't compute with me...
Is she by any chance the sort of person who wouldn't be able to buy a Skoda?0 -

Have just started shopping at Aldi. In addition to the staples that have been mentioned, there are a couple of snacky things that I've really enjoyed.
The first is the bruschetta toasted snack breads - they do these in a couple of flavours, but the tomato and oregano one is the one that I've tried and they are lovely, very flavoursome.
The second item that I really like is their chilled coffees. I quite like the Starbucks ones but have never seen these cheaper than £1, even when on offer. The espresso machiato (sorry about spelling) is lovely at 65p.

I have bought the grated cheese from Aldi and it is good value but I don't think it's as tasty as grating my own. I think it must be the potato starch in it.
I find the blocks of mature cheddar are great (excuse pun:o) for everyday sandwiches and cooking purposes.0
