Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

I do but when I bought 3-in-1 my DH still wanted the rinse aid and salt as he hates the lights coming on! (I know they can probably be disconnected but...). My reasoning is that if he's showing such great interest in cleaning and washing up then I'm doing all I can to encourage him!;)
tronator, how do you use the vinegar for cleaning?0 -
First you mention Finish Quantum ( > 20p per tablet) and then you use Tesco's own brand
, but it's still much cheaper to buy everything separately.
I alternate between Fairy and Finish, depending what's on offer when I need to buy them. Never pay more than 14p per tablet. And I would never use Tesco own brand.
Lidl 60 tablets for £3.19 is 5.3p per wash
Lidl 2kg salt for £0.99 lasts longer than one pack if tablets, so less than 1.5p
I use white vinegar as rinse aid 5l for £2.50 - £3, so it's negligible (but even normal rinse aid is 1l for ~80p and lasts very long)
The vinegar keeps the dishwasher clean too, haven't cleaned it for ages and it looks spotless after every wash...
Altogether it's less than 7p per wash. Who would have thought
Far too much hassle for me, I like to just pop in a tablet and go. I'm not going to worry about breaking the bank for the sake of saving an average 18p per week
ETA: My machine uses more salt therefore my costs would be higher. When I used to use the cheaper tablets I needed to put 1.5kg of salt in per 30 washes.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Really? Too much hassle to refill the salt every 4 weeks or so? Did you think you need to add the salt with every wash? Ok then...
I also just pop in the tablet usually.0 -

Having just calculated the true cost of going back to using the separate items I find it would actually cost more so it's not worth it to me.
I may try the Aldi All-In-One tablets @ 10p per tablet next time I'm in there. That would save me a whole 9p per week :rotfl:“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I'm speechless. If I wouldn't see the amount of thanks you seem to get I would think you are a troll...
I showed you my calculation of 7p per wash compared to your 13p (or even 11p). What's your calculation with buying tablets and salt separately? Surely, can't be more than 13p, which would be twice as much as in my calculation.
I'm outta here, where is my coat?0 -

I have no access to a Lidl therefore cannot buy their products. I priced MY costs on what it would cost ME to obtain the necessary products where I live. So, I'm a troll because I can't buy things as cheaply as you? Nice!
We do not all live in the same regional area nor have access to all supermarkets so there will always be variations. Also, those living in a soft water area would have no need to use salt therefore that's one less expense for them. Those of us living in extremely hard water areas have to use double the quantity.
The fuel cost alone to drive to these cheaper stores far outweighs any savings I could possibly make. As I stated before, my nearest Aldi is 20+miles away but I've recently joined a club in the same town which means I can now pop in there whilst in the town, which I did last week. Even then I got berated by folks here because I managed to spend £70+ in there :rotfl:“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I cant find fault with the norpak butter. "I cant believe its not lurpak":rotfl:0

I think Lidl's dishwasher salt in the box with a pourer is excellent so I've never looked for any in Aldi. I did notice Aldi had rinse aid last week but it was a special on one of the tables so maybe they aren't going to stock it regularly.
I make a special trip to Lidl's every couple of months to buy dishwasher stuff and luxury muesli that DH likes, otherwise I'm happy with Aldi which is nearer for me so more mse on fuel.
Yes thats why I buy the DW salt from Lidl as the pourer is good, its easy to decant into a plastic container or straight into the salt compartment.0 -
