Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Tried the Holly Lane 6 Bramley Apple Pies from Aldi last night. I notice that Tesco's own-brand ones are selling for £1 and the Mr Kipling ones for £1.50.
Surprising then that the Aldi ones were absolutely yummy, just as nice as Mr Kipling and less than half the price.
Thanks Aldi - that's another overpriced brand I'll never have to buy again and more money saved.
Had them with Ambrosia custard and used my last tin as not been on half-price offer for a while so I think I'll bite the bullet and try Aldi's own custard next time.
Also - I think it's Aldi's Holly Lane label that make their butterfly cakes. Pack of 6, either lemon or raspberry flavour for £1. I've introduced a few people to these now and not one person has said anything other than how absolutely scrummy they are.
I think Aldi's Holly Lane are made by Mr Kipling as the date codes use the same style and the inner tray looks the same. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

As with many things from Aldi, that wouldn't surprise me in the least.0 -

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you about the Aldi Everyday Rice Pud. I'm not a rice pudding fan myself but DH asked me not to buy this again and to stick with their "better class" rice pudding in the bigger tins. He likes tinned rice pud for afters on the odd occasion when I have to leave him to fend for himself!
As for the ready-made custard just mentioned, I think that is lovely for the money and very nearly almost as good as Ambrosia!!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

My DH loves the Aldi rice pudding. I bought him the Ambrosia one recently and he said not to bother again as the Aldi one is much nicer !!You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Thanks guys - have put the custard & rice pudding on my Aldi shopping list for my next visit later this week.
Yes, there are a lot of mentions of fattening goodies on this thread. As someone mentioned before, Aldi's bargain prices mean there is so much money saved that it's tempting to try some naughty treats. I often hope that they're actually horrible as I really don't need any more fattening things tempting me when I do my shop.
Finished off the Holly Lane Apple Pies last night. As I'd run out of custard, I microwaved them and had them hot with a big dollop of vanilla ice cream. Absolute heaven. Will definitely be buying another pack of these. Diet postponed until March then. Damn you, Aldi!0 -

Seriously though, I am determined to keep my weight down and I find Aldi is amazing, especially the fruit and veg (be selective as agreed quality can vary) and lean meats like gammon and FR chicken.
I buy those bars of chocolate with five mini bars in and DH and I share one (mini bar) a day. I buy him caramel wafers and sometimes fig rolls then all the rest is healthy stuff!
It can be done!:D0 -
I was disappointed today in Aldi by the disappearance of some of our regular items. I couldn't get sesame seed baps, everyday value fish fingers or frozen breaded chicken fillets. Hopefully it's just a glitch?0
