Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

Has anyone tried their Aldi Dentitex whitening toothpaste 125ml £0,59 at the moment?0

May have already been discussed but picked up one of the 5 packs of little chocolate bars from lidl yesterday. The same from Aldi was gorgeous in the plain chocolate. Lidls didn't even taste like chocolate let alone plain chocolate - yuk. A definate avoid there. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Agreed. 1.6kg of free-range chicken for a fiver is a bargain and they are always delicious.
I always try to eat free-range but a friend I often eat with was buying non free-range ones from Tesco for £6 with PSO stuffing. Discovered that Aldi sells the same chicken for £4.50. We had it last night and it was just as nice as the Tesco one. Yet another win for Aldi.0 -

Haven't tried the Lidl version of the little 5 packs but I assume they're from Lidl's version of the Choceur range. Isn't that Bellarom??
Their 200g milk chocolate slabs are on the half-price weekend offer at the moment. Had some yesterday and thought it was nicer than the Choceur milk chocolate. Don't eat plain chocolate so I'll take your word for it that the Aldi one wins.
Anyone who likes white chocolate should definitely try Aldi's Choceur 200g white chocolate slab. It's absolutely delicious. Milky Bars are lovely but I don't think you can get them in large sizes anymore so this is a right treat - just as nice and the massive bar means you can stuff your face if you need a chocolate pick-me-up.0 -

For anyone who likes plain chocolate the 70% Moser Roth is wonderful. DH and I share one of the small bars every evening. That's not being excessively mse just watching our waistlines!;)0 -
I have. I know a few people here have dissed Aldi's toothpaste but I've been using it for almost 2 years now and I have no complaints. Tastes fine to me and is another bargain.0

Tried the Holly Lane 6 Bramley Apple Pies from Aldi last night. I notice that Tesco's own-brand ones are selling for £1 and the Mr Kipling ones for £1.50. The Aldi ones are 65p!!
Surprising then that the Aldi ones were absolutely yummy, just as nice as Mr Kipling and less than half the price.
Thanks Aldi - that's another overpriced brand I'll never have to buy again and more money saved.
Had them with Ambrosia custard and used my last tin as not been on half-price offer for a while so I think I'll bite the bullet and try Aldi's own custard next time.
Also - I think it's Aldi's Holly Lane label that make their butterfly cakes. Pack of 6, either lemon or raspberry flavour for £1. I've introduced a few people to these now and not one person has said anything other than how absolutely scrummy they are.0 -
Lidl had a load of their "Deluxe" range of food on offer last week. I'm not normally a fan of top-tier ranges as Aldi have shown me many times how you don't need to spend extra for nice food just because it tells you on it's posh packaging just how much better it is.
Anyways, I thought I'd give a few things a go just to see if there really was much difference. Tried the Beef Bourguignon pies last night (well, one of them - was a 2-pack for £2.29, normally about £3 I think).
Hmm. Was very nice and a fair amount of meat. But I can't honestly say I'd buy them again. Aldi's 2 pack of steak pies is only £1 and they are just as nice but with slightly less meat. When the Lidl pies aren't on offer they cost 3 times as much so I'll stick to the Aldi ones in future.0 -
Aldi's Hill Biscuits' Chocolate Creams - seem to be a (temporary??) replacement for their own-brand Bourbons.
A massive hit in our house. Shaped like a Custard Cream but brown and chocolatey like a Bourbon. And absolutely scrummy, even nicer than the bourbons.
And only about 30p for 24 biscuits (2 sealed packs within the main pack). A great bargain. I hope these don't disappear once the bourbons come back again.0
