    The clue is "specially selected".

This thread is to help people not very familar with Aldi & Lidl.

Specially selected means nothing to me. Dont all shops put similar on their packing?

Sorry! Always forget about Lidl as I don't shop there.. I edited my post.

The mackerel is not "specially selected", it's normal brand.. I think £1.58 the packet.

I started road cycling/commuting this year, and I seriously recommend Aldi and Lidl for cycling stuff. Aldi's cycling gear has seen me through these last few cold months (along with some decent baselayers, admittedly).

It's not all on-par with the pro stuff (it fits me fine), but I've saved serious money on gear that would normally cost twice as much (including a workstand and track-pump which have been used quite a bit and still work fine).

    Other great finds have been:

    ALDI:
    Ready-roll pizza-dough - 99p
Border's Dark Chocolate Ginger Biscuits (yum)
John Cotton King Sized Duvet £12.99 (they also had a duck-feather one for £23, but I went for the cheaper option)

    LIDL:
McKennie Jess Haggis - 89p at the moment, although these aren't the best I've had. They were a little gristly and fattier than I would have liked, but still tasted great with mash and gravy!

Interestingly you mentioned sports clothing- I bought a few bargains last month including £1.49 Cycling shorts and £1.49 for 2 pack of T-shirts

    HI

We occasionally buy the Vita cat food. This time I've noticed the premium pouches are 85g instead of 100g. When I've bought in the past its always been 100g pouches. Are the non premium vita cat pouches 100g or have they shrunk too?

Where have you been over the last few years? Many food/grocery items have been reduced in size and/or weight!

Tried some Aldi mini Melton Mowbray pork pies yesterday. The pastry was awful.Looked good-nicely browned on the outside but was glutinous and horrible to eat.Well within date.Bad batch or just a bad product?

ive had them and thought they where ok, about the same as the Tesco home brand and just a bit cheaper.:)

I started shopping in Lidl at the beginning of the year and I'm now doing my main shop there with mostly good results. But I have a couple of questions:

The WD50 washing up liquid looks as concentrated as the branded stuff but doesn't make much froth and feels like I'm washing in plain water after a few minutes and I end up refilling the bowl with a new squirt which doesn't seem like value for money.

I'm having real problems with the milk going off. I buy the 4 pt which is good value for £1 and it has long use by dates but starts to turn after a couple of days open and I'm having to chuck it out.

Can't speak for Lidl's washing up liquid but other WD50 products (like dishwasher stuff) have been fine. I buy the Magnum Original w/up liquid from Aldi and it's great. It's won awards and IMO is every bit as good as Fairy.

Apologies if you haven't got a local Aldi but if you have I'd certainly recommend giving it a try.

This is what I found with their washing up liquid, so I now get the Aldi version (Magnum) which is a s good as Fairy.

Bubbles don't equate to cleaning power, the bubble side of things is different to the detergent side
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I have been in touch with them re the chicken. I am not going to take it back though because it will mean a forty mile round trip :( but they have said they will refund and compensate. Will have to wait and see what comes through the post.

Presumably you were there for some other reason and don't normally shop there? Because a forty mile round trip just to shop in Lidl or Aldi would rather defeat the purpose.

I buy fresh meat in Lidl all the time and never had a single problem. What would be in it for them to sell off meat? If you had a 20 mile trip home after buying it how long was it in the car?
