I bought a 'fresh' chicken there two days ago, use by date 4 Feb, opened it today for a roast and the smell was bad!!!!!

Also bought a Specially selected Wiltshire cured ham and cheddar quiche which isn't a patch on the Tesco version.

Just take the chicken back and they will refund it.

Tried some Aldi mini Melton Mowbray pork pies yesterday. The pastry was awful.Looked good-nicely browned on the outside but was glutinous and horrible to eat.Well within date.Bad batch or just a bad product?

Agree - they are not good.

I can confirm that Aldi will exchange a gone off chicken with no quibbling.

I used Almat washing powder when I lived in Germany, in the days when powder was all you could buy to wash with. It was great and I really missed it when I came to the UK, nearly 30 years ago.

Nowadays I use the gel so as to keep my machine drawer clean and sweet smelling. Almat bio gel is great. The fabric conditioner doesn't match Lenor, but neither does anything else - and this was on as an Aldi Specialbuy a little while ago anyway

I wasn't a fan of Aldi coffee particularly but I have discovered that I like their Decaff Gold very much. I normally drink Carte Noire decaff but couldn't face going in Tesco just for that. Aldi Gold Decaff isn't Carte Noire, but it is very good.

I have been in touch with them re the chicken. I am not going to take it back though because it will mean a forty mile round trip :( but they have said they will refund and compensate. Will have to wait and see what comes through the post.

I tried the smoked mackerel this weekend from Aldi, it's delicious!! As good as Sainsburys Taste the Difference, for half the price.

    Lidl favourites...

I can recommend Lidl Q10 Day Moisturising Cream. Light and not to greasy and works well on my middle aged rather dry skin.

My DS and OH like the mens' 2-in-1 shower gel and shampoo. The Sports type smells just lie any other manly sporty shower gel and DS also likes the green topped Citrus one. The orange (Tropic?) fragrance gets a big thumbs down though. I regularly end up supplying DS's entire rugby squad with shower gel as no-one else ever seems to remember to take a bottle but at 79p I don't really mind.

Basic tissues are 28p a box and do just as well for blowing your nose as any other type.

    The clue is "specially selected".
