Aldi's Torchon Ham - fine tasting stuff, and Aldi's version of Mars Bars (forgotten the name as not bought them for a while!).

Think they are called Tritans :) very tasty! Love Aldi, even for branded stuff, I buy loafs of bread and Nuttela jars!

I bought some fruit and veg in Aldi on Tuesday. It all looked good and I was impressed with the Super 6. However...last night I opened the pack of onions to find that 2 out of the 4 were soft and rotten inside. The salad potatoes were a bit soft too.

The bananas are great, pears look good and the 2 loaves of bread were very fresh.

I'll see how I get on when I go tonight after work. Need to pick up a few things and will show them the onions.

Meaningless post unless you say if its Aldi or Lidl ?

    My apologies, Aldi!

Received a £10 gift voucher from them this morning in response to the 'bad' chicken

Presumably you were there for some other reason and don't normally shop there? Because a forty mile round trip just to shop in Lidl or Aldi would rather defeat the purpose.

I buy fresh meat in Lidl all the time and never had a single problem. What would be in it for them to sell off meat? If you had a 20 mile trip home after buying it how long was it in the car?

Yes, visiting a friend who had just had an op. Maximum 30 minutes in car(no longer than any of my shopping would be from the city). I live in a rural location and mostly shop in small local town but if I go into the city for whatever reason I always stock up from the larger stores.

My better half was not too impressed with some of the veg from Aldi, looks like its back to sainsburys.

There seems to be a serious and permanent problem with the onions, and it's been that way for a very long time. They're frequently bad inside, and all that happens when you mention it to the manager is that he says to bring them back.

Every week? I wish they'd sort this out, and the generally poor keeping quality of a lot of the fruit and veg. It's the one thing that really lets Aldi down, and I think (from a recent online survey they put out) that they're becoming aware of that. How long it takes them to sort it is another matter entirely.

Strange, we always have the 1kg bags (with around 9 onions) and I don't recall the last time I had a bad one.

Stocked up today on the £1.99 window film at Aldi. It's the stuff that gives a double glazing effect at a fraction of the price. I bought three packs to do my parents' big single-glazed bay window. If it stays mild I'll keep it for next year.

Can't vouch for the quality, but the price is phenomenal. It's £4.99 on the website, but I definitely paid £1.99 in store, just checked the receipt:

Different suppliers for different locations, perhaps? We have the same bag, and a lot of the time half of them are rotten. The outsides are fine, but the insides are bad.

Just tonight, I finished off a pack of mushrooms that I bought in Aldi two weeks ago tomorrow. Yesterday I did the same with the last of the tomatoes (admittedly to cook them) and I still have one onion left from the same shop. I think you need to have a good look at fruit and veg and if it looks ropey don't buy it. There's a high turnover so nothing stays in the shop too long.

Totally agree with taking things back if they're substandard though. The company want to maintain their increasing share of the market so hopefully will listen.
