Good and bad buys from Aldi and Lidl

The window film will have been reduced on an Aldi last chance to buy. It was on Specialbuys back in October.
Today I tried the Aldi Toblerone lookey-likey, sold as a Swiss Milk Chocolate Bar. They have standard, mint and orange varieties. The bar isn't a triangular prism like Toblerone, but there is little difference in flavour and it's still angular with grooves for that satisfying snap.
They have a brilliant indoor folding clothes dryer on Specialbuys atm, I bought one today and it's marvellous. It assembled very quickly and easily. Just what we need when drying outside is impossible.

Wow! Most of the Christmas stock long since gone at our Aldi and what's left (like shortbread) not much reduced so probably why its still there.
This was the first week that ginger wine had all gone.:( Shame as it was a good buy at £3.99 and even better when reduced.0 -
Sorry if its been posted, but we get the large tubs of milkshake powder from lidl, they are great value for the money and last ages!
Think there around £2.50.0 -
It does sound as though in some stores there may be a problem with onions, it is only our 5th week shopping at Aldi, we use loads of onions and have bought a bag every week and so far not had 1 bad one.
Complaints of this type Aldi and Lidl will attract, it is the nature of their business, over the years I have had loads of bad produce from Morrisons and Tesco, you just put it in the bin and forget about it but with Aldi and Lidl it becomes and issue as though some shoppers are almost expecting it. I think there is a section of shopper who are shopping there under sufferance, they do not really want to shop there but cannot refuse the saving and are constantly looking for that 1 thing that will prove them right and it is all crap as they thought right from the beginning so they can justify moving back to their normal supermarket, these people are not doing this on purpose it is all an unconscious thing, it is wired into them somehow that because it is so much cheaper there must be something wrong with it, so the first bad onion or mouldy Clementine instead of just throwing it in the bin like they would with any of the big 4 they make a big deal out of it because they are expecting at any stage to discover the "secret" as to why it is so cheap.
No offence to anyone and as said it does appear as there may be an issue with onions but I really think some people struggle to deal with how cheap things are because they are too used to being ripped off by the big 4, they get to the checkout and save 30% although they are thrilled they are also uncomfortable as it makes no sense to them.
Anyway, I agree with the guy about the specially selected angus burgers, we don't usually eat much processed food, we normally always make our own burgers but these looked so goo and for £1.99 for 4 we had to give them a try, not disappointed they were delicious again dry griddled, hardly any shrinkage and only a small amount of fat, really impressed with these, fingers crossed for a BBQ summer
The specially selected frozen chips, again cheap as chips and delicious, for me they need a good slug of salt but I am a salt lover anyhow. The specially selected lemon curd cheesecake, I will just say WOW! Only a small piece though it is veryyyyy rich but delicious.
Bagged salad leaves are great, so is the baby plum tomatoes that were in the super 6 this week, really sweet and delicious. The big 30 pack of crisps great no problems just as good as Walkers, the garlic nan breads, the korma curry sauce for 79p, the basmati and pilau microwave rice all great.
The big pack of the greek yoghurt with honey for 89p is lovely, so are the greek style corners, very happy still, not found anything this week we have not enjoyed.
Oh their own version of Magnums in the freezer, 3 for 99p are fantastic both the milk and white chocolate and also the minis.
We are now totally converted and never for 1 second even consider going any where near any of the big 4 for anything, saved a good few quid over the last 5 weeks something along the lines of £30 - £40 as week so a nice chunk of change and have eaten some great quality food, for me now I feel a bit stupid and annoyed at not trying them a lot lot sooner, all that money Morrisons and Tesco have scammed me out of..............."You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
Always try at least one new thing every time I shop at Aldi (2 or 3 times a month).
Yesterday? Pack of 2 fresh cream chocolate eclairs. Only 80p. And...
Absolutely gorgeous. Nicer than Tesco's ones which are 50% more expensive.
Another Aldi treat to add to the list.0 -
Just demolished a free range whole chicken from Aldi. We always buy them from there and the quality is excellent for under £5.0

Might be worth checking out the 'middle' aisles in Aldi for reduced food items, they had a bunch of items half price or less - I got a bottle of groundnut oil for 49p, 'posh' raspberry jam for 64p, jar of wholegrain mustard with chilli for 34p and some wholewheat spaghetti for 29p, they also had bits like tinned olives, bags of dried herbs and marmalade. All had long dates on :j0
