Bought some Aldi Brooklea fat free Greek Style yogurt and, although I'm not vegetarian, was still a bit horrified to see 'pork gelatin' in the ingredients list. Just me?!
I am vegetarian and it's in a few low fat/ fat free yoghurts, muller light and some weight watchers yoghurts for example. And chocolate mousse. I get my chocolate kick another way!DFBX2014 challenge #052 £1900/£1900

I think adding gelatin is a very cheap way to make yoghurt seem rich and creamy. Revolting finding meat produc.ts in desserts and sweets blurgh"'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Perfectly normal, a quick google will give you an explanation along with umpteem other products and major brands that use it. I buy the greek yoghurt with honey and it is delicious, I think I mentioned it earlier in this thread.welsh_mummy wrote: »We all love the Warburtons so will defo be stocking up with the aldi version tomorrow.
My recent discovery are the yoghurt covered rice cakes, very yummy as a mid afternoon snack without filling you up too much and not too sickly/sweet either x
mmmm these sound great, where will I find them? Are they with the biscuits and chocolate or with the crackers and bread sticks? I like anything that is covered in the yoghurt covering it is delicious"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -

I'm not a vegetarian, but I still can't see that it's 'normal' to put meat products into yoghurt.
Go and search google, you will be surprised just how many big products and big brands use gelatin as a setting agent, it is in all sorts of things to the extent that a lot of them advocate and advertise a kosher version! It is not actually a meat product, not like stirring in a lump of pig fat or ground up bacon, gelatin is a by product from the animal, it has a manufacturing process of it's own so not quite as simple as adding an animal product as such.
Interestingly though I have just had a look at the packaging for the Brooklea Greek yoghurt with honey that I buy from Aldi and there is no mention of gelatin being used at all, so not sure why it is used in the plain yoghurt and not the flavoured??
The tinfoil they sell in Aldi, the 30 metre stuff in the blue box for about £1.99 is very good as well, I have only ever bought Baco foil in the past as I have a real pet hate for the thin crappy foil that breaks every 10 seconds, the Aldi stuff is actually of similar thickness to Baco foil and just as strong, good find. The cling film is also very good.
The hot cross buns at the moment 6 for 50p I think they are are gorgeous as well, full of fruit and really yummy."You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -

In my local store they are just after the cereals in amongst the crackers and breadsticks, hope you find them - I love them xxMFW - currently at £23,610 (Aug 2014) MFD 20200 -

I second this. Been using it for the past 2 years. Half the price of anything I've used from elsewhere and just as thick - an absolute bargain!!0 -
Aldi- Recently bought a easy to cook gammon joint with a honey glaze and red Thai salmon fillets- both delicious and will be buying more!0

We have transferred a lot of our food shop to Aldi brands. Not sure on prices but here our our buys/swoosh from Aldi:-
Bilash curry sauce - tried Pataks since swopping & we didn't like it
Tinned tomatoes/Tinned Kidney Beans
Bramwells Tomatoe, Brown & Mayo Sauces but the light mayo isn't nice
Tinned fruit is really nice
Corale Baked Beans - but the spaghetti isn't nice
Fruit & Veg - I do get from green grocer if I am going though too
Chocolate bars - we have chunky choc biscuits for pack up
Orange & Apple juice
The sugar/caster sugar & flours are fab
Cheese, steak pies, ham, pepperoni (I use when I make pizza) but the frozen £1 pizza's are fantastic too!
Me & my other half are such Aldi converts - been shopping for 2 years there now and we keep changing more and more things to Aldi brand.Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:
