of course they are ! answers please .

I'm surprised you want answers from me at all since you think I am only claiming to be a teacher but here goes. If the link below works it should point to a page from the National Autistic Society.

Guys I'm not planning to respond to any more posts about autism. You folks can carry on discussing it if you want. At the end of the day the issue was entirely the adult's response and not the child's initial action that prompted the thread. Autism was seriously not an issue here - just a spoiled brat and a mother with no manners or decency.

I'm well accustomed to the way threads go whenever someone bandies the word 'autism' about so I'll just leave you to it if that's OK. Most people on here and the ones I've discussed it with IRL agree that it was out of order so I'm happy with that.

you apparently understand how to deal with any autistic child..... it's as much a sweeping statement to say that you know everything there is to know about dealing with any given autistic child.

where did i say ANY autistic child ?

it's implied in your statement - intentional or otherwise. it's what i read from your post, whether you meant it or not. i could equally argue that you read posts from other people with a particular interpretation that others didn't read into it.... it's not often best to jump to the worst possible conclusions and it's also very easy to let your own biases colour how you read other people's posts...... we all do it at least some of the time! i think a bit more balance is needed when things start to escalate towards an arguement rather than a discussion.

Apologise to the lady who was hit.. it wasnt deliberate.. take my child home and send them to their room and they would get toast later if they were lucky and Id treat myself to a takeaway.

BUT... it is quite possible a child of that age having a tantrum may have an unseen disability such as Aspergers or other autistic spectrum disorder or learning difficulty.. while many children run amok, many middle aged women are too quick to jump to the conclusion it is the parent at fault.

I was just thinking that. Even spoilt bratty kids would probably be happy with an alternative and option or 2 to choose from where as someone with autism/some disorders would of had it worked into their routine and planned that they were going to X place and going to eat X and when the situation has changed they have a meltdown.
