Evening all, just had a quick read back. Thanks for all the lovely messages.

((hugs)) to everyone with not so sweet grandmothers or MILs.

We've had a really busy day after we got back from the hospital we went to ikea. We bought this chest of drawers and this chair but with a different cover. I wanted the rocking chair but it won't fit in the baby's room so I've got this which bounces. I'm not 100% sure if it'll fit yet but we'll see. We then went to Babies R Us and got this cot. We've built the chest of drawers and the cot and they look fab :) DH as gone to play football so I'm having a nice sit down :)

    xx

love the purchases, we are heading to IKEA in a couple of weeks, i was looking for a chair to go in babies room, might go for that one.

The rocking chair is really nice but is a bit bigger and also more expensive. The one I got is lovely too and I think I maybe spending time sitting in it before baby comes ;)

Has anyone bought any books from birth onwards? Any recommendations? I may get my DH the one that people were talking about that looks like a car manual but I'd quite like one for myself too especially ones maybe with tips on setting routines etc

Great news on the scans Emsbet and Kitten :) x

I had my consultant appointment today, appointment was at 9:30 am I finally got finished with them at 12:20! Talk about a long time.

They tested my urine and found it had protein in, then mentioned that my ankles are really swollen and OH told them I'd been getting bad headaches. They tried to take my blood pressure and it took them 6 attempts, at one point the cuff inflated to over 200 and I now have a lovely bruise on my arm from that time. My BP in the end was fine though and they did say it's probably a little bit early for any pre-eclampsia symptoms but they will send the urine off and then monitor me.

They've also determined me as High Risk, its written in lovely big letter on my notes. It's one of the only things I can make out as the consultants handwriting is illegible. I've been re-referred to physio as the consultant was not happy with the treatment they gave me. I have to go in to the Antenatal clinic on Wednesday to have GTT even though I will only be 20 weeks. Then I am to have another at 26 weeks. Fun times :-/ I've also been booked in for extra growth scans - one at 28 weeks and one at 34 weeks. I'm not worrying about these I'm treating them as extra opportunities to see bubs. They haven't got me booked in for my 20 week scan, so they filled a card in and sent it to the scanning department who will give me a ring in the next few days to tell me my appointment time and date. Think thats everything.... oh and I've been prescribed aspirin to thin my blood.

So now my appointments for the next few months look hectic lol.

    Serious question...

When you register a birth do you have to take your baby with you as proof? After all, there could be massive fraud opportunities in creating a completely fictitious person so surely they don't just take your word for it...?

Its a centralised computer system and the midwife has a legal obligation to complete the birth details. Info gets sent to Registrar and NHS so you get babe's NHS number instantly.

After a homebirth the MW goes into her base to complete the documentation and computer records and to dump the rubbish. Sometimes the paperwork takes longer than the birth itself x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I had a few baby books, the main 2 were Gina Ford and Baby whisperer

Its probably down to personal taste, and i dont wish to offend anyone, but i found Gina ford to be militant in her approach to baby care - its a good idea to set routine but her books were YOU MUST ie 6:55 open curtains, 6:57 pick baby out of cot, 7
:25 be washed & fully dressed, 7:35 eat toast etc etc

Baby whisperer was more about focusing on what baby is trying to tell you and catching the tiny little signs that are there to help you respond rather than forcing baby to do what you want and when. I found her TV series to be helpful too, sadly she passed some years ago and it might be hard to get hold of.

After tying myself up in knots for the first few weeks I decided to use bits from both that helped us rather than following a plan religiously.

hi everyone, just checking in very quickly as I'm so tired!
Didn't get on here at all over the weekend as was so busy with painting the loft, but have caught up now I think.
Will post again in the morning (have the day off work as scan and consultant in the afternoon - eek).
((hugs)) to all who want one.
